With the start of the new semester, the Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF) is rolling out a new video with more detailed information about how it uses the money donated to the organization and how contributions are made.

History of Women’s Suffrage focus of Jan. 23 community meeting

CARSON CITY — The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada will host a virtual community meeting on Jan. 23 from 10 am to noon. The meeting will tell the story of the fight for women’s suffrage starting with the history of the beginning of women’s battle to get the vote in America.

Donations for Carson City Do Drop In non-profit that serves the underserved brings food, clothing and holiday cheer

Thin Veil Investigators, an investigative team which is based in Carson City, hosted two fundraisers for the “Do Drop In” this month. DeeDee Foremaster is the owner of this non-profit organization, first established November 17, 1998.

Carson City Schools Foundation awards various grants to support students and educators

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2020. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded $200 mini-grants as well as up to $2,000 grants for a department, school or grade-level projects.

Senator Square: Carson High students compete in organ, tissue donor art competition

Be a part of bringing hope by voting on contestant art pieces to decide the “Social Media Fave” in the Donor Network West annual art contest. Four Carson High students, Anthony Larry, Connor Lampert, Danielle Van Dusen, and Sarai Jauregui Rivas made the first cut, though all of CHS Graphic Design Instructor Patricia Ababio’s students submitted entries.

The teachers of CHS are asking if this is still true? Of course it is. Men, women, and children of Carson City are encouraged to purchase a T-shirt to support both breast cancer awareness and CHS teacher Kelly Gustafson, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Being a student at Carson High School is rewarding enough, academically speaking, but learning is happening everywhere; however, forcing a teacher to dress in pink, from head to toe, wearing a pink tutu, is a different story and an exciting fundraising opportunity.

Sierra Nevada Realtors give time, donations back to rural communities

Earlier this month, members of Sierra Nevada Realtors spent time improving their communities all throughout the region. The annual Realtors Give Back event was special this year because it also included areas outside of Carson City. Members participated in community service as a group in Dayton and gave a generous monetary donation to the Fallon Youth Club and to the Boys and Girls Club of Carson City.

The state’s Board of Wildlife Commissioners is currently seeking nominations for the 2020 Wayne E. Kirch Nevada Wildlife Conservation Award.

'Clean Up The Lake' removes over 8,000 lbs of trash from Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake

Clean Up the Lake, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has removed 8,183 pounds of trash from Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe.

Beginning in July 2020, the Clean Up The Lake dive teams completed a circumnavigated SCUBA clean up of Donner Lake, covering every inch of the 8 mile shoreline at depths of 0-25 feet removing all the smaller trash they could find that resulted in 5,151.5 pounds of trash removed from Donner Lake compared to 3,032 pounds of trash removed from the depths of Lake Tahoe.

League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada to present virtual candidate forums in October

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital Branch will present a series of virtual election forums on October 9, 12, 13, and 16 beginning at 6 pm each night.

Nevada's commercial rental assistance program begins, grants up to $10K available

CARSON CITY — Small businesses and non-profits in Nevada are now able to apply for the state’s commercial rental assistance grant program, established through the State Treasurer’s Office and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. The program begins today, Monday, August 24.

Team of scuba divers begin underwater cleanup efforts at Donner Lake

Colin West, executive director of Clean Up the Lake, a non-profit organization, along with three other scuba divers will be braving the cold water of Donner Lake in Truckee, Calif. for two weeks in an effort to fight trash pollution that began July 6.

AYSO Carson City Youth Soccer opens fall 2020 registration for kids of all ages

The AYSO Carson City Youth Soccer Region 140 organization is bringing excitement back to the state capitol.

Registration for the upcoming fall season is open for kids ages 3-18. Early bird registration ends July 15 and can be made online or in-person at Yogurt Beach, located at 3228 N. Carson St. in Carson City. In-person registration will be held Wednesday, July 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce winners of mini-grants from Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. The competitive process garners dozens of applications from district educators each semester. In addition to the mini-grants, the foundation has also awarded $2,000 to $3,000 grants for a Department, School or Grade-level projects.
