National Public Lands Day 2020 is themed “more ways to connect to nature” and is celebrated this Saturday, Sept. 26. This is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands. Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space invites you to volunteer for a trail workday.

Heading into the weekend, there’s an abundance of activities around the capital city region over the next three days. The Brewery Arts Center hosts a female version of "The Odd Couple." Carson City's Greenhouse Project is hosting a lunch and dinner fundraiser toward a healthier State Capitol. Dale Poune will perform at Bella Vita Bistro, plus comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Nevada Caucus on Saturday, an open house at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, a Latin-themed concert at the community center and more. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is having a Cottonwood Wrapping volunteer event! We will be installing mesh wire around the base of Cottonwood trees to protect them from being damaged by beavers.

CARSON CITY — Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Nevada Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 28 with a “fee-free” day at Nevada’s State Parks. Park fees, including entrance, camping (Saturday night) and boating, where applicable, will be waived at state parks throughout Nevada.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its first ever volunteer post Nevada Day Clean-Up on Oct. 28, 2018 from 8 to 10 a.m. The department will provide all of the trash bags and gloves necessary for the clean up.

Nevada Day is one of Carson City's biggest events and enjoyed by thousands of people. This year, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is working closely with the Nevada Day committee to orchestrate a mass clean-up of downtown the day following Nevada Day.

Another successful volunteer event was held this Saturday at East Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City. Our department wants to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our small but mighty group of 4 who attended Saturday's cottonwood wrapping. We successfully wrapped 25 trees in about a 90 minute time span.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The public is invited to celebrate National Public Lands Day with the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and our partners at Nevada Beach Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Hold onto your hat, Carson City, we’re in for one heck of a weekend. It’ll be cowboy hats and pioneer bonnets in Genoa for Western Heritage Day. Keep an eye out for Mark Twain, plenty of music, and fun for all. Leis are the preferred accessory for Lei Day at the Nevada State Museum where you’ll be treated to Polynesian surprises and free admission. SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. – Saturday, October 28, is Make a Difference Day, one of the largest national community service days. Fort Churchill State Historic Park is looking for volunteers who would like to lend a helping hand with projects around the park. Registration for this volunteer event is required.

It’s going to be gorgeous all weekend long, and there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the sunny weather. The Annual Cops and Kids Open House at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department is a family favorite with free food, activities, and games. Treasure hunters will be kept busy with the Genoa Community Garage Sale, as well as one encompassing the Saratoga Springs area of Johnson Lane. Lend a hand to Muscle Powered this morning as their monthly Trash Mob tackles the Linear Park Trail. Keep reading for great ideas on how to have some fun.

With rising temperatures bringing snowmelt runoff from the Sierra, a Flood Watch is in effect beginning Sunday for much of the region, including Carson City, Lyon, Washoe and Douglas counties, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

This weekend is for all of the moms out there, and the dads that are also moms, and the women who hold a special place of honor in our hearts. Scoop the family up and find something to enjoy together. The annual RSVP Spring Carnival is an easy choice, but a round-trip to Virginia City on the historic V and T Steam Train is pretty memorable. Find something pretty for her garden at the Spring Plant Sale that the Greenhouse Project hosts each year. CASI’s annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Center is always a fun time for your furry friends. Red’s Old 395 welcomes back the THiNK PiNK kick-off to breast cancer awareness month. Downtown you’ll find the wine walk, a rummage sale at the Veterans Memorial Hall, and the Fall Vintage Market at Due Sorella. Toast the season at Fandango: Oktoberfest has returned. If you were looking for a lazy day, today might not be it. Carson City BMX welcomes moms to the track today; their Mother’s Day race was postponed due to the wet weather. Virginia City still has plenty of chili on the menu, in addition to their annual Fun with the Runs 5K. Gardeners will want to head to Douglas High School for the Future Farmers of America plant sale. Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. Take a gander at the whole list, there is plenty of stuff to do in the Carson City area this weekend.

The Dog Days of Summer have hit town, so grab your favorite four-legged friend and have fun. CASI is hosting the ‘pooch plunge’ at the Carson Aquatic Center so that your pooches can beat this late September heat. Join the Nevada Humane Society at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company for the first annual ‘Brew-paw.’ Adoptable pets, a raffle, and more await. Don’t miss out on the downtown walk Sunday following coffee and mimosas at Adele’s. The ‘wag-n-walk’ will end up at the Visitor’s Center where you will be rewarded with a special pet tag.

Muscle Powered, the local non-profit organization that advocates for a walkable and bikeable Carson City, is hosting a Trash Mob Saturday morning, August 15 along the Lone Mountain trail located north of the cemetery in Carson City.

Join the League to Save Lake Tahoe and the U.S. Forest Service for a weed pull on the evening of June 28th in Rabe Meadows near Stateline, Nevada. Volunteers will be helping to remove invasive weeds that are threatening Tahoe’s native plant species and wildlife habitat. Learn about invasive weeds and how to properly remove them.
