Polar Express, live comedy, 'Matilda the Musical,' garden craft show and more: Carson City region set for eventful weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include Polar Express train rides, Touched By Angels hosts a garden craft show on Saturday, a night photo shoot at the Nevada State museum, Rob Sherwood headlines the Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget, 'Matilda the Musical' and more!

— Muscle Powered Friday morning walk at Mexican Ditch. 8 a.m. Meet in the Hidden Meadows trailhead parking area at 965 Buzzy's Ranch Road. Dirt trail. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City!

— Give Thanks and Holiday Preview Sale. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eddy Vintage Street Market, 1235 Eddy St. in Gardnerville. Join us November 15th-17th for our Give Thanks & Holiday Preview Sale at Eddy Street Vintage Market.

— Experience Virtual Reality at the Carson City Library. 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop Street. Join us to experience Virtual Reality! Using the latest technology, Virtual Reality allows you to experience new places and situations in a computer simulated world. Discover what it’s like to see dinosaurs up close, view art from around the world in a single museum, or blast alien ships in a virtual world. Must be at least 13 years or old to participate. A Premiere library card is required to attend.

— Carson City's Do Drop In fundraiser on tap at Governor's Mansion. 4:30 to 8 p.m. at 606 Mountain St. The Do Drop In at 1895 E. Long Street in Carson City is home to the Rural Center for Independent Living and the area's only day center for the homeless and mentally ill. It receives no government subsidies, so it relies exclusively upon community support for the funds needed to keep its lights on and doors open.

— Holiday Art and Wine Show. 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 U.S. Hwy 395 N. Gardnerville. Holiday Art & Wine Show at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center. Visit us for the perfect gift for your family, friends or yourself! Select community artists will be in our Main Hall throughout the weekend of November 16 & 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A special reception to “Meet the Artists” will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 15. Activities include a no host wine bar; we’ll be serving mimosas in the morning.

— Flick N' Float at the Carson Valley Swim Center. 6 to 8 p.m. at 1600 Hwy 88 in Minden. Come enjoy this new movie watching experience on the water.

— Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop. 6 to 9 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson Street. Open Mic Night is held at A to Zen Gift Shop on the Zen Den Stage. All talents, creative projects welcome. Come practice being on stage. There will be music, comedy, poetry, magic, and more. All ages and skill levels welcome.

— The Polar Express Train Ride. 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the V&T Eastgate Depot, 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. The 2019 Polar Express is inviting a limited number of Carson City area youth groups and organizations in the community to be a part of The Polar Express experience by portraying elves at the North Pole each year. For every night the group provides the required amount of elves, chaperones and works all three trains we will donate $100 to the groups for every night they perform.

— Live music at Glen Eagles Restaurant. 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 3700 N. Carson St. Enjoy live music that is sure to make you get up and dance every Wednesday through Saturday starting at 6:30 to 9:00ish.

— Comedian Rob Sherwood at the Carson Comedy Club. 8 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street. You don't want to miss out on this weekend's comedy show at the Carson Comedy Club in Carson City. Comedian Rob Sherwood will be performing this Friday and Saturday.

Saturday, November 16
— Muscle Powered's Trash Mob to take on Centennial Park. 9 a.m. at Centennial Park Dr. November's Muscle Powered Trash Mob will be at Centennial Park in Carson City this Saturday, Nov. 16. Beginning at 9 a.m. we will clean up around the ball fields near the Trailhead for the Wild Horse Trail. Meet at Centennial Park Dr and Heritage Way in Centennial Park, look for the Muscle Powered flag.

— Turkey Shoot at the Carson Valley Golf Course. 10 a.m. 1027 Riverview Dr. in Gardnerville. Come on out and test your shot at the Turkey Shoot!

— First Annual Indigenous Peoples' Heritage Day scheduled at Carson City Children's Museum. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 813 N. Carson Street. The Carson City Children's Museum will be partnering with the Washoe Tribe to bring crafts, performances, play and education to the community during the first annual Indigenous Peoples' Heritage Day.

— Touched by Angels in Carson City hosts Saturday home and garden craft show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 205 E. John Street. Touched by Angels in Carson City will host a Home and Garden Craft Show this Saturday at 205 East John Street. Celebrating its 9th year, the show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be great food and a raffle. See the beautiful creations of 29 local artisans metal work, bird houses, local honey, jewelry and much more.

— Guided Tours of the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday in Carson City. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration.

— Pre-Holiday Open House. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 405 N. Nevada Street. Join Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery on Nov. 16 for our pre-holiday open house. Get some gift ideas and do some local shopping for the holiday's.

— Nevada State Railroad Museum offers night photo shoot. 12:30 to 7 p.m. The opportunity to take a great photograph at the Nevada State Railroad Museum doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down. On Saturday, Nov. 16, the museum is offering a night photo shoot workshop that will be led by professional photographer, editor and author Steve Barry.

— Mountain bike ride and Carson River cleanup. 1 to 3 p.m. Meet at the entrance to Carson River Canyon at the intersection of Deer Run Road and Brunswick Canyon Road near the Deer Run Road bridge. Grab your mountain bikes and take a ride with a Park Ranger through Carson River Canyon on this exciting volunteer opportunity.

— Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson Street.. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 weekly sessions or $45 drop ins.

— Lego Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop Street. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.

— Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company presents: Matilda, The Musical. 2 to 9 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is bringing the internationally acclaimed, high-energy, magical “Matilda the Musical” to Nevada for the very first time! Based on the Roald Dahl classic novel, the award-winning musical tells of a gifted young girl who develops telekinetic powers to help her overcome the wicked headmistress, Agatha Trunchbull, and save her abused teacher and classmates. A cast of extraordinary performers rocks an exhilarating score with powerful dance numbers and broad comedy.

— Books and Brew Club. 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street. Are you a coffee-drinking book lover? Looking for a way to make new friends? Then join us for a book discussion over food and drinks! We will be meeting in the Barrel Room of Alatte Coffee and Wine Bar to discuss this month’s book choice.

— Strutts for Mutts. 5 to 10 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Hwy 395 N. Minden. Featuring The Imaginator Syndicate, a group of fun-loving actors who skip the script and leap on stage not knowing where they will land!

— Skate Night at the Douglas Community and Senior Center. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 1329 Waterloo Ln. in Gardnerville. Bring your skates or rent a pair of your own for just $2.

— Carson Chamber Singers, Joyful Noise Children's Choir present Carson City concerts. 7 p.m. at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 US Highway 395 South. Carson Chamber Singers, conducted by William Belcher, and Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir, conducted by Michelle Powers, will present Fall Concerts on Saturday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 17 in Carson City.

— Annual fall book signing in Carson City featured at the Nevada State Museum. 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. With fall in the air and winter nipping at her heels, curling up with a good book is a great way to spend a few hours – or days – and learn about Nevada in the process. The Nevada State Museum’s annual Autumn Book Signing has everything you’ll need.

— Carson City Raiders Booster Club to host Christmas Commitment Fundraiser for Home Bound Seniors. 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Ave. The Carson City Raiders Booster Club's Christmas Commitment Fundraiser for Home Bound Seniors will be taking place. There will be a silent auction, live auction and raffle to raise funds to adopt deserving seniors in our community and provide them with the joys of Christmas. Our members will be purchasing, wrapping and delivering gifts to the seniors in early December.
