Muscle Powered celebrates Virtual Bike Month in September

Back in March, as we began to watch the COVID-19 outbreak unfurl in the United States, we held out hope that we could still come together to celebrate as usual.

Epic Rides raffling $6,000 mountain bikes to raise money for trails

Kings Canyon to Ash Canyon Trail Update

The Bike Smith hosted this particular work day, and many of the guys from the shop were there to lend a hand. We arrived at the Kings Canyon trailhead at 9:00 AM where we received a safety talk, a hard hat, and trail tools to carry up to the work site.

Many cyclists around the country will be taking to the streets next week to use their bicycles for their daily transportation needs. While many of us are pretty comfortable riding bikes for recreational use, we tend to do these activities in ideal locations away from traffic where there isn’t much to think about besides having a good time. Bicycle commuting and other urban errands, though, will most likely take us through areas that are out of our normal comfort zone.

The Clear Creek Trail is almost 10.5 miles long, is open to hikers, mountain bikes, equestrians and dogs, has no exit, and is currently 21-miles round-trip.

The owner showed us the new bike he just got, a big-wheeled, fat-tired bike with low gearing. Our small-wheeled BMX bikes were limited to firmer terrain, and you had push them up the steeper hills.

Tunnel Creek Cafe Now Open

Max Jones and Patti McMullan, who currently own and operate Flume Trail Bikes at Spooner Lake, have recently opened a new cafe at Tunnel Creek Station. The cafe is located on Tunnel Creek Road near the old Ponderosa Ranch which was used for filming the 1960s television western Bonanza. More importantly though, the Tunnel Creek Cafe is at one end of the world famous Flume Trail.
Wilderness area proposal would harm regional economy says public Pro-Access group
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 08/27/2012 - 2:29pmWith the comment period ending Thursday, August 30, the newly formed Sierra Pro-Access Group is asking outdoor enthusiasts to write against a U.S. Forest Service alternative plan that proposes creating new wilderness areas that would shut down some of the locals' most beloved recreation areas on public land around the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The economic effects on the Lake Tahoe Basin could be devastating, the group says, shutting out what clearly has been public access for not only snowmobiles, but mountain bikes, dirt bikes, and 4-wheel ATVs.

What Huber knows is the world of cycling.
Huber is a former professional cyclist who had several top-10 finishes in the World Cycling Championships and held the speed record for a self-powered vehicle in 1993.
First Flume Trail Ride of the Year

The light winter snowfall has nearly melted off the lower trails, giving access to Marlette Lake and the Flume Trail. A few of us rode the Flume on Saturday, May 12th to go check it out.
