There's two days left to donate a new, unwrapped toy so that local kids will have toys to unwrap on Christmas morning. The Northern Nevada Dream Center's third annual Dream Christmas Toy Drive is in full swing and donations of new, unwrapped toys for children ages 1-18 can be donated at locations listed below through Dec. 15.

In recognition of the start of the holiday season, Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) branches across northern Nevada are collecting donations for those in need on behalf of local nonprofits and the KTVN 2 News Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive.

Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with Stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those who did not know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. She carried water and snacks in her car to give to the homeless and people less fortunate then her. It came as no surprise to the people closest to her, when the social worker assigned to her case went to Tiffani's hospital room and asked what she needed.

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services and Common Ground Church will present Foster the Hope, a Christmas toy collection and panel discussion at 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at Common Ground Church in Carson City.

Carson City-based DeBug Computer faced a Christmas challenge. Every year, the company hosts a Photos with Santa event with proceeds going to a local non-profit. The DeBug team huddled with Santa to discuss how to reach the children safely during the coronavirus pandemic. They decided to ask children, with their parents’ consent and supervision, to email a letter to Santa@debugcomputer.net.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Pantry is looking for donations of new, unwrapped toys for children. We are looking for things like dolls, crayons/coloring books, games, toy cars, puzzles, etc. Little things make such a big difference to children whose families don't have much.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. Happenings around town include organized morning and evening fitness walks, a "Stuff the Bus Toy Drive" at Capital Ford, a Planning Commission meeting on the proposed Andersen Ranch development and a Posada event at Mark Twain Elementary. Plus, the Carson City School Orchestra Program will hold its annual Holiday Concert at the community center, The Peanuts Gang Trio will hold a free holiday concert at Sassafras, and more.

December 17th will be The Salvation Army's first Angel Tree "Stuff the Bus" Toy Drive at Capital Ford in partnership with Capital Ford, Carson City School District, and KOZZ 105.7.

The days keep moving along, ever closer to the weekend and huge helpings of Christmas holiday activities. Thursday events around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting with the developer of the proposed Andersen Ranch, a presentation: "Feathers and Furs of the Carson Valley" at the River Fork Ranch, an "End to Prohibition Party" at Gather restaurant, and more.

The break in the stormy weather was a short one, with more precipitation later in the day Wednesday, forecasters say. Activities around Carson City on Dec. 4 include a "Red Kettle" job hiring event at the Carson City Salvation Army, a Fitness Lab grand opening on Minnesota Street, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, library activities, classes and more.

Snow days, snow way. At least that's what the weather forecast calls for Tuesday. We'll see mostly cloudy skies before another chance of rain or snow arrives midweek and then a larger storm in time for the weekend. As the saying goes of Nevada weather: Wait a minute and it will change. It is also #GivingTuesday. If you have a favorite organization, it's a good time to send a few dollars their way. Around town there's art showings, a fitness walk, hike, dance classes and an old school film favorite at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. The Fox Brewpub in Carson City is the 2019 winner of the annual Battle of the Bars Turkey Drive, having collected 52 birds in the Salvation Army competition to feed local families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Carson City's Vitalant, located at 256 E Winnie Ln, is hosting a food drive and gift drive now through Dec. 22 to benefit Northern Nevada Dream Center and the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Nevada.

Gifts can be any age range so long as they are unwrapped.
