Here's what's happening Thursday:
— Muscle Powered Thursday Morning Hike at Secret Harbor. 8 a.m. Join Muscle Powered Thursday for a morning hike at Secret Harbor, Lake Tahoe. Meet at the Highway 50 Park and Ride where hikers will carpool up to the trailhead. Thursday morning hikes start at 8 a.m. and are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and closed-toed shoes are required. Hat and poles recommended. See www.musclepowered.org/calendar for hike information or cancellations. — Public Meeting for the 2020 Community Development Block Grant Carson City. 9 a.m. Carson City will conduct a public hearing at the Community Development Conference Room A, 108 E. Proctor Street, in order to discuss potential applications for funding under the next fiscal year’s (July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021) State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and to solicit additional citizen input on possible activities to be included in an application.The purpose of this public hearing is to give citizens an opportunity to discuss proposed projects submitted to date and to suggest further ideas. Proposed projects and estimated funding are listed. Only projects listed here and proposed at the meeting will be forwarded to the Council/Commissioners for approval.

— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Graphically Defined. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at BRIC, 108 E. Proctor St. Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is delighted to present Graphically Defined, a group exhibition of work by seventeen Western Nevada College students. This exhibit includes a wide variety of art including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting and photography that shows the diversity of the students’ creativity. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is open Monday-Friday 8:00-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: New Crop 2019. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E. Musser St. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, New Crop 2019, by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop.
— Healthy Communities meets in Virginia City. 9 a.m. Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties September breakfast meeting is on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. at the Storey County Community Center in Virginia City. Guest speakers this month are Ginger Paulsen from Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, and Robin Reedy from state of Nevada chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). In addition, the agenda includes discussion and updates on issues of regional importance across Lyon and Storey counties, such as access to health care and to local food, and strategies for sustainable, community-based development. The Storey County Community Center is located at 175 Carson Street, Virginia City.
— Cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles plans stop at Nevada State Railroad Museum. 10 a.m. A convoy of vintage military vehicles, making its way cross country to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first U.S. Army Transcontinental Convoy from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, will make a pit stop for lunch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City on Thursday. The public is welcome to view the vehicles and visit with the convoy participants. The lunch stop is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the museum, 2180 S. Carson St., Carson City. The convoy is planning to come in on U.S. 50 and take Carson Street south to the museum.
— Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery Autumn Membership Show, now through Oct. 18. Enjoy artwork from our member artists. Membership has risen to nearly 150 local artists during our 40th year operating as a gallery. The Autumn Membership show runs from Sept. 8 to Oct. 18 at Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery at 449 W. King Street in Carson City. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Also, save the date, Nov. 3 as the association will be hosting its 40th anniversary celebration on location at the Gallery, 2-4 p.m.
— Carson City Library hosts Family Storytime. Two sessions. 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 a.m. These are both the same and last 45 minutes. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Carson Street.
— Brown Bag Luncheon: Nevada Reads Tour Author Willy Vlautin. Noon to 1 p.m. Nevada Humanities will welcome author Willy Vlautin at a series of events throughout northern Nevada during the month of September. Mr. Vlautin is the author of “Don’t Skip Out On Me,” a 2019 pick for Nevada Reads — a statewide, public book club offered by Nevada Humanities. Nevada Reads invites Nevadans to read selected works of literature and to come together in their communities to share ideas and perceptions inspired by the book club selections. Light refreshments will be served. The public is invited to this free event, held at Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records, 100 N. Stewart St., Carson City.
— Food Truck Thursday at Carson City's Mills Park. Noon to 9 p.m. Food Truck Thursday will be held at Mills Park on the second and fourth Thursday of the month and will feature several food trucks. 1111 East William Street, Carson City.
— Carson City Kiwanis Thursday meeting at The Martin Hotel. Noon. Carson City Kiwanis celebrates its 60-year anniversary and looks to continue to be a great service club in this great community. Kiwanis offers an opportunity for leadership and involvement in the improvement of our community. Meetings and projects develop and use leadership skills, expand business contacts and achieve a sense of accomplishment while enjoying a sincere and lasting fellowship. Carson City Kiwanis invites you to attend an upcoming meeting. — LEGO Club at Carson City Library. 4 to 6 p.m. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop St., Carson City.
— Author to present 'WEIRD Carson City' book Thursday at Brewery Arts Center. 5:15 p.m. Meet the Author at the BAC is a free event Thursday, Sept. 12, 5:15pm, open to the public. Sandie La Nae, author of “Weird Carson City” will talk about her book with PowerPoint presentation, and have copies available for purchase and to autograph.
The event is September 12, 5:15pm at the ballroom at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 King Street, Carson City, Nev. The public is welcome, and beverages and wine benefiting the Brewery Arts will be available for purchase.
— Pro Jam Night with Lester & Friends at Mangia Tutto. 6:30 p.m. A night out for pro musicians to get together and make some music. Join Brian Lester and Friends every Thursday this summer at Mangia Tutto Pizzeria on the corner of Stewart and Musser St. 6:30 to 9 p.m. Bring your instruments.
