The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Bryan Bibee, representing Kiwanis International, a service club with chapters in more than 80 countries and geographic areas around the world. Affiliated clubs make up a total of 600,000 members, who raise in excess of $100 million each year and donate 18.5 million volunteer hours in support of important community projects.

Carson City Kiwanis hosts a food drive for local non-profit Food for Thought, Inc. Food for Thought, Inc. provides food for chronically hungry children in our community. Each week, Food for Thought, Inc. discreetly provides a nutritious bag of food to children for the weekend in 16 local schools.

The 2021 Virtual Meals on Wheels fundraiser hosted by Carson City Kiwanis proved to be a success. The event raised $2,100 of which will be donated to the Carson City Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program.

This is the final week of Carson City Kiwanis’ Meals on Wheels fundraiser. In years past, the event included attendees who enjoyed competitive games of BINGO and a pasta feed. The total amount of donations received benefit the Carson City Senior Citizens Center's Meals on Wheels Program.

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

While the seat for Ward 2 will be filled following the election on Nov. 4, another seat is open and will be filled by appointment.

The seat for Ward 3 is currently held by Supervisor Lori Bagwell, who will be vacating now that she has been elected Carson City’s mayor.

Carson City Kiwanis hosted the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Golf Tournament and Carson City Bench Press Championships at Silver Oak Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. The sold-out event resulted in 140 golfers teeing off and 9 weightlifters bench pressing to raise over $10,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and over $3,000 for the Marilyn Elaine Scholarship.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The Dayton Chamber’s 27th annual “Making A Difference” Golf Tournament arrives Friday. Carson City Kiwanis is hosting its seventh annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday with several activities for all to enjoy. Combined with live music and railbike tours, the weekend will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

Carson City Kiwanis will host the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day fundraiser on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City, NV. The net proceeds from the fundraiser will support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Marilyn Elaine Academic Scholarship, awarded annually to local high school graduates.

The Virtual Meals on Wheels fundraiser hosted by Carson City Kiwanis proved to be a big success.

The event raised $3,855.44, including a $1,000 anonymous donation and a donation from the club itself of $1,000 donation.

Carson City Kiwanis would like to take a moment and thank everyone who have participated in our virtual Meals on Wheels fundraiser. There is a strong outpouring of support for our cause to raise money for the local Meals on Wheels program.

As a reminder, we are contiuing to raise funds through Sunday, June 7, 2020.

Carson City Kiwanis supports local causes serving children, youth, elderly and disabled. Focused on this mission, the club hosts an annual Bingo and Pasta Feed to support the Carson City Senior Citizen’s Center Meals on Wheels program. Unfortunately, like many other local events, the club was forced to cancel the April 2020 fundraiser due to COVID-19.

This Friday through Sunday, Dec. 13-15, the first Homestead Holidays at Silver Saddle Ranch, hosted by the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, will be bringing a free family event to the community with some good old-fashioned Christmas charm.

While it isn't quite Christmas-weather yet, I'm assuming at some point it will get cold and we can finally get into the upcoming holiday spirit! When that time comes, there are a ton of great Santa-related events going on in Carson City for you and the little ones to enjoy.

What do you get when you combine 134 golfers, 70 runners, and 24 weight lifters on a beautiful Saturday in September? The results are over $9,000 raised toward pancreatic cancer funding and over $3,000 raised for local scholarships. Pretty amazing, right?

Happy Saturday, Carson City! We're going to have a warm day in the low 70s, so be sure to throw on your t-shirts which may be the last time this fall (barring the typical end of November inexplicable heat wave).

Saturday, September 21

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Rockabilly Riot car show, Dayton Valley Days, a pancreatic cancer awareness walk at Silver Oak Golf Course, the annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Facility, horse endurance races in Virginia City, history talks at Mormon Station Park and much more!

Carson City Kiwanis is serving short stacks for a tall cause at the Carson City Applebee’s on Oct. 5, 2019 from 8 to 10 a.m. The entire proceeds of this event will support the Ralph Denny Memorial Scholarship that awards a one-time $750 scholarship to a local high school graduate each school year. Originally named the Carson City Kiwanis Annual Scholarship, it was renamed following the passing of long-time Kiwanis member, Ralph Denny.

Each September for the past five years, Carson City Kiwanis has been making it their duty to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer. This year, to that end, they’ll be hosting the 6th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day event on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The fundraiser will offer three events to further the cause: a golf tournament hosted by the Silver Oak Golf Course, a pancreatic cancer walk/run, and a bench press championship competition.

Heading into Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, events around the capital city region include a morning hike at Lake Tahoe, a Healthy Communities meeting in Virginia City, a cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles that will make a stopover at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, activities at the Carson City Library, book author presentations at the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Brewery Arts Center, food trucks at Mills Park and more. The 6th Annual Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Run will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. Proceeds from the event will support Pancreatic Cancer Research and local academic scholarships.

There are three walk/run events this year. There is a 2-Mile walk/run, an 8K event, and a 1-Mile walk/run for kids 12 and under.

The 6th Annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament will take place at the beautiful Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City. Tee time begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019.

This event is the last and largest of the events hosted by Carson City Kiwanis during their Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day activities. This event has sold out each year. The reason: all proceeds support Pancreatic Cancer research and scholarships to local high school graduates.

Moving into Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, there's another chance for thunderstorms headed our way and then a bit of a cool down going into the weekend. Looking around the capital city Thursday there's a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, auditions for V&T Railway's Polar Express, art showings, a host of activities at the Carson City Library, a Muscle Powered morning hike and more.

Heading into Thursday, August 29, 2019 and we're ready and due for the upcoming three-day holiday weekend ahead. Looking around the Carson City area for Thursday there's art showings, a Muscle Powered hike, a Partnership Carson City training and lunch and then a vigil to recognize and prevent opioid overdose and more.

Coming up on Thursday, August 22, 2019, we can expect continued sunny skies with a daytime near 90. Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. Enjoy the day.

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

We're rounding the corner to the weekend as we head into Thursday, August 8, 2019. Events lined up include a morning hike with Muscle Powered to Marlette Lake, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, art showings, library events more. Hug your kids. Enjoy the day.
