Healthy Communities meets in Virginia City this Thursday
VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties September breakfast meeting is on Thursday, Sept 12 at 9am at the Storey County Community Center in Virginia City.
Guest speakers this month are Ginger Paulsen from Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, and Robin Reedy from state of Nevada chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).
In addition, the agenda includes discussion and updates on issues of regional importance across Lyon and Storey counties, such as access to health care and to local food, and strategies for sustainable, community-based development. The Storey County Community Center is located at 175 Carson Street, Virginia City.
What Is the Coalition? Whether its organic school gardens, mobile dental clinics, tobacco and opioid use prevention, STEAM activities, job skills training, or suicide prevention, Healthy Communities takes a multi-faceted approach to promoting opportunities for health and wellness with a prevention first approach.
Healthy Communities is comprised of dozens of local, state, federal and tribal group partners; hundreds of community volunteers; a board of directors and staff, all working together on a common mission to strengthen communities in the Lyon and Storey regions by increasing access to 1)health care; 2) affordable, locally grown food; and 3) sustainable community-based development opportunities that serve the common good and build local assets and self-reliance.
