Lyon County School District’s Superintendent Wayne Workman has been named Nevada Superintendent of the Year by the Nevada Association of School Superintendents. Former Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas L. Steffen died peacefully from natural causes on Sept. 1, 2020 in Hendersonville, TN. He was 90. Steffen served on the Nevada Supreme Court from 1982 until his retirement in 1997.

The first time I had ever heard "Taps" played in person, I was visiting Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, just outside of Washington, D.C. A Navy funeral was concluding and bugler "Taps" signaled the sailor's final farewell.

While many of Carson City’s local businesses were mandated to shut down to help the rapid spread of COVID-19, some businesses were deemed to be essential under Governor Sisolak’s order; however, even those essential businesses have changed the way they do business to try and alleviate stresses on the health care system.

Gov. Steve Sisolak issued another emergency directive Tuesday to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus — this time limiting indoor and outdoor gatherings to no more than 10 people.

A Carson City couple, Robert and Pamela Corkill, stuck on a Grand Princess Cruise ship docked in Oakland, Calif., and quarantined because of the coronavirus among some of the passengers, were surprised to learn Monday evening that state and local health officials are coordinating their return, along with other residents from the capital city, Douglas and Lyon counties.

CARSON CITY — What started in September with a field of more than 4,400 Nevada High School students has been narrowed to the final six who will compete Saturday, March 14, for the title of Nevada Poetry Out Loud Champion.

The American Library Association honored Carson City Library and its cohorts for 2019 advocacy efforts, helping restore federal library funding after it was proposed to be eliminated for the third time last spring.
