Events and activities around Carson City for Sunday, June 30
Happy Sunday Carson City! There are plenty of activities and events around the Carson City region to help transition back into the work week. The third and final day of Carson City Off-Road cruises to downtown Carson City with Pro Men and Women Backcountry races starting at 7:30 a.m. Muscle Powered will hold its weekly Sunday bicycle ride at Fremont Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A vintage steam train ride will chug its way to Virginia City at 10 a.m. followed by a guided walk through the historical landmarks in Genoa. Disney’s Newsies presented by Wild Horse Children’s Theater will show at 2 p.m. inside the Carson City Community Center. To cap-off the weekend, interested participants can visit the Toast of the Canyon Train in Virginia City featuring a journey into the Carson River Canyon.

Sunday, June 30
— Fourth annual Carson City Off-Road returns to Carson City. Rides start at 7:30 and 8 a.m. in downtown Carson City, 101 N. Carson St. Hosted by Epic Rides, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road will cruise the local mountainsides and the streets of the capital city's downtown this Friday through Sunday. The event is slated for a record turnout. More than 900 riders have already registered with more expected to cruise by the state capital. All participants will ride their way into the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada all while soaking in the views of Lake Tahoe, Washoe Valley and Carson Valley. Both amateur and professionals will course through pieces of single track, double track, gravel and narrow roads and several historic streets in Carson City.
— Canyon White at Canvas Cafe. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Canyon White is at The Canvas Cafe every Sunday 9 a.m. to Noon so come on up and start your day right with some yummy breakfast and Canyon White!
— Muscle Powered Sunday Bicycle Ride. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd. Meet at Fremont Elementary School in the South parking lot next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Typically, this ride consists of two 10-15 minute loops with varying pace depending on rider level. This is a “no drop” ride so no one will be left behind. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes. — Train to Virginia City from Carson City. Event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Prices for the ride range from $25-$55. Rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mill on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route as you meander through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive. This relaxing all-day train excursion is fully narrated with historical facts and anecdotes. Departing from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot, the 24-mile round-trip tour includes a fun 3.5-hour stopover in historic Virginia City, where you can stroll the boardwalks and explore restaurants, shops, saloons, museums, mines and more. — Margaritas and Macramé in Gardnerville. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fun and Feng Shui Creative Studio and Lounge, 1400 Hwy. 395. Macramé is back. Enjoy making nostalgic plant hangers or wall hangings using just 2 knots and simple techniques – this 1-2 hour class – it gets even better with ALL you can drink margaritas.
— Vintage steam train in Virginia City. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Virginia and Truckee Depot, 166 F. — Guided walk of historic Genoa. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mormon Station Park. Mormon Station is located in the heart of the Genoa National Historic District, which encompasses over 25 structures and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Join a park interpreter for a guided walk throughout a portion of the historic district. During the approximately one-mile round-trip walk, an interpreter will discuss the significance of the structures located along the route.
— Every Time A Bell Rings. 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. For a delightful concert experience join Tintabulations for their 2019 concert presentation: “Every Time A Bell Rings” featuring stories about mythology, superstitions and traditions. All concerts are free, donations are accepted.
— Bilingual Storytime at the Carson City Library. 1 to 2 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book in both English and Spanish. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.
— Wild Horse presents Disney's Newsies. Showings at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Wild Horse Children’s Theater presents the Tony Award winning Broadway phenomenon, Disney’s Newsies in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center 851 East William Street in Carson City, June 28, 29, 30 and July 5, 6, and 7th. Based on the true 1899 story of a scrappy group of newsboys in New York City who become unlikely heroes when they rally forces to fight an unscrupulous newspaper tycoon, this inspirational defy-all-odds musical leaps onto the stage with soul stirring music, amazing heart, and stunning, energetic choreography.
— Toast of the Canyon Train. 7 p.m. at the Eastgate Depot, 4650 Eastgate Siding Rd. in Virginia City. Journey into the Carson River Canyon on an intimate experience, perfect for a date night. Enjoy white wine and appetizers as you travel on a 45-minute trip south of Carson City’s Eastgate Depot. The ride is filled with scenic views of the Carson River and the canyon walls as they echo the sound of the train whistle. The experience is complete when the “Iron Horse” steams by the passenger cars to reattach to the train to pull it back up out of the canyon.
