Your 2017 guide to Carson area Easter festivities

With Easter just days away, the bonnets, baskets, eggs, and bunnies are about to descend. Here is a sneak peek at where to find the fun in Carson City, Douglas, Dayton, and Virginia City. Most all of the egg hunts are free, but I've made sure to include an entry price if one exists. I’ve listed them by start time, and have the town listed first to make an event near you easy to locate.

SATURDAY, April 15:

--Carson City: Build Your Own Easter Basket at Stacy’s Baskets and More: 2650 Carmine St #9 - yellow house in back, look for signs (Friday and Saturday 7am-5pm; wide range of brand new baskets and stuffers for all ages, priced individually)

--Carson City: Northern Nevada Spring Faire at Fuji Park (10am-3pm; free pictures with the Easter Bunny, pony rides for $1 per kid, petting zoo $1 per kid, kids craft station and coloring station, free face painting, a bounce house, wellness section, vendors for shopping, raffles and more; donations of canned food, jackets, new socks, and hygiene products greatly appreciated)

--Carson City: Eighth Annual Easter Fiesta at Western Nevada College at Rotary Plaza (10am-3pm; Free Egg Hunts: 10am, 12pm, 2pm; Coloring Contest, Pinatas, Face Painting, Bunny Limbo, Musical Chairs and much more; Game tickets: $1 per ticket, $5 for 6; sponsored by the Association of Latin American Students)

--Carson City: Photos with the Easter Bunny at the Carson Mall (Photos 10am-4pm; call 775-720-2542 for more info)

--Indian Hills: Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Bunny at James Lee Memorial Park: 3394 James Lee Park Rd., Indian Hills (hunt begins at 10am; three age groups)

--Silver Springs: Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Silver Springs Day Use Area of the Lahontan State Recreation Area - enter from the Silver Springs entrance off Fir St. (begins 10am SHARP; free; raffle for prizes to follow; park entry fee waived for participants)

--Genoa: Cotton Tails - An Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Brunch at Mormon Station in Genoa (10am-4pm; Limited tickets for Egg Hunt and Pancake Brunch available – Get them online HERE or by calling 775-901-0567; two separate egg hunts beginning at 12pm: ages 6 and under, and 7+; Lawn games, delicious mimosa and bloody mary bar, Easter Bunny photo booth and local artist craft farmer’s market are open to all)

--Carson City: Kiwanis and Moose Lodge 39th Annual Egg Hunt at Centennial Park – north of Eagle Valley Golf Course (11am; Free to all children, thousands of eggs and hundreds of prizes, meet the Easter Bunny)

--Dayton: Easter Egg Hunt and Family Brunch at the Mark Twain Community Center: 500 Sam Clemens Ave, Dayton (Egg Hunt begins promptly at 11am; free ham brunch to follow)

--Virginia City: Annual Easter Bonnet and Pet Parade in Virginia City (12pm; Line up and registration begins at 11:30 at the Jerky Company on C Street for those who would like to participate)

--Dayton: First Annual ‘Big Egg Hunt’ at the Gold Canyon Café: 160 Main St., Dayton (Hunt begins 12pm; food/drink for sale; raffles)

--Washoe Valley: South Valley Volunteer Fire Department Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Washoe Lake State Park at the Group Use Area pavilion (Easter Bunny shows up at 12pm, group hunt begins at 12:30pm -There will be a small kids area (0-3) and 1 large hunting area for all the other kids; Hot dog/hamburger lunch available for purchase; free admission to park today)

Easter SUNDAY: April 16
--Carson City: Easter Morning Sunrise Service at the Capitol Grounds Amphitheater (7:30am; sponsored by C5 Church)

--Carson City: Celebrate Easter at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (9am-4pm; egg hunt, building candy trains; coloring sheets; story time with children's book author Calamity Jan; and other surprises; museum admission $6 adults, children under 18 free)

--Minden: Johnson Lane Volunteer Fire Department Annual Easter Egg Hunt: 1450 Stephanie Way, Minden (9am)

--Genoa: Brunch Buffet, Meet the Easter Bunny, and Egg Hunt at David Walley’s Hot Springs Resort, Genoa (Brunch 10am-3pm, $38/$18 kids 5-12, Reservations 775-782-6602; Free egg hunts at 9:30am AND 11:30am on lawn by the restaurant; two age groups: 6 and younger, and 7-12)

--Minden: First Annual Underwater Easter Egg Hunt at the Carson Valley Swim Center: 1600 Hwy 88, Minden (hunt begins 11am, pool open until 1pm; Activity pool ages 1-5, Slide pool ages 5-8, Main pool ages 8-up; pool fee $5 adults, $3 youth includes hunt)

--Stagecoach: Stagecoach Bingo’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Pioneer Park (11am, please no early arrival to grounds; age groups: 0-2, 3-4, 5-8, 9-12 – special needs accompanied by parent okay)

--Dayton: Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast at the Dayton Valley Golf Club: 101 Palmer Dr, Dayton (Pancake breakfast served 11am-12:30pm; $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 10 or under; Free Easter Egg Hunt begins at 1pm)

--Gardnerville: Carson Valley Active 20/30 Club Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lampe Park: 1324 Waterloo Ln, Gardnerville (Free hunt begins at 1pm; Three age groups: infant-3, 4-7, and 8-11)

Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol division has identified a Minden man who died in an Oct. 24 single vehicle crash on I-580 and Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe County.

UPDATE 6:30PM: A Carson City teen, Larissa Rupert, reported missing, is now safe and unharmed after being contacted by deputies who were called to a residence, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Culinary students at Carson Middle School will soon have some new tools in their kitchen. The program recently received a $5,000.00 grant from the Rotary Club of Carson City. Club members surprised Culinary Arts teacher Tammy Borremans, who applied for the grant, in her classroom earlier this week.

A storm system moved into the region overnight, bringing a few inches of snow to the Sierra and rain across the lower valleys.

Clear Creek Bowmen annual Turkey Shoot is this Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Carson City Archery Range, just East of Eagle Valley Golf Course. The event is open to the public.
