Music, comedy, UFO talk and more highlight weekend activities around the Carson City region
Heading into the weekend, activities abound around the Carson City region over the next three days. We should note you'll want to check ahead of time in case of cancellations.

Here's a rundown of activities over the next three days:
Friday, March 13
— 80's Weekend with New Wave Crave at the Carson Valley Inn (all day). New Wave Crave is the high-energy 80's tribute band that's more 80's than 1980! Bring the generations together to sweat the dance floor with popular songs by Madonna, The B-52's, Cindy Lauper, The Cure + plenty more! Free events, must be 21 years or older.
— Family Fun Day at the Nevada State Museum. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 813 N. Carson St. The Nevada Families First program presents a day of fun at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. We will start our visit with story time followed by an art activity, then work our way through the museum and play with your child/children. We have reserved an hour and a half for our group connection, but you are welcome to stay longer.
— The Greenhouse Project Fundraiser at Gather Restaurant. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 402 N. Carson St. Support The Greenhouse Project by joining us for lunch or dinner on Friday, March 13, 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. at Gather Restaurant and we will donate a portion of our sales to this great organization. Plan to stop in for a delicious meal and a crafty cocktail.
— Experience Virtual Reality at the Carson City Library. 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Join us every Friday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 p.m. to experience Virtual Reality! Using the latest technology, Virtual Reality allows you to experience new places and situations in a computer simulated world. Discover what it’s like to see dinosaurs up close, view art from around the world in a single museum, or blast alien ships in a virtual world. Must have a waiver signed.
— Irish Whiskey and Irish Cream Tasting at Cowboy's Liquor. 5 to 7 p.m. at 444 E. William St. Come enjoy Saint Patrick's Day with an Irish Whiskey and Ice Cream Tasting event at the Cowboy's Liquor Company. Snacks, raffle prizes and lots of fun. $5 gets you a 'rocks' glass in which you get to keep.
— Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop. 6 to 9 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. Open Mic Night is held at A to Zen Gift Shop on the Zen Den Stage. All talents, creative projects are welcome. Come practice being on stage. There will be music, comedy, poetry, magic, and more. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
— Sign Workshop at Rustically Divine Vintage Market and DIY Studio. 6 to 9 p.m. at 410 N. Carson St. Suite 101. Come enjoy a fun time of creating with us. Design your own wood sign, perfect for yourself or to give as a gift. Select your pallet size and your design on the studio design tab of our website, then go to 'sign up' to register.
— Introductory Fly-Tying Academy with the Carson Fly Fishing Academy. 6:30 p.m. at the Ormsby Room inside the Carson City Sheriff's Office, 911 E. Musser St. The purpose of the class is to learn basic techniques of tying different flies, no experience necessary. The flies for this class will be Wooly Bugger, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Elk Hair Caddis, and Humpy.
— Thomas to give talk on UFO Incident, Nevada War this Friday and Saturday at Western Nevada College observatory. 6:30 p.m. at 2699 Vanpatten Dr. in Carson City. Spend Friday and Saturday, March 13-14 with Mike Thomas as he provides a good UFO story and history lesson in a war that took place in Nevada in 1860.
— Reno-Jazz Orchestra in Concert at the CVIC Hall. 7 to 9:30 p.m. at 1602 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden. The Carson Valley Arts Council presents Reno Jazz Orchestra in concert as part of its 2019-2020 Concert Series.Reno Jazz Orchestra creates good music in the grand tradition of the jazz big band stage performance with the rush and wonder of playing 17 pieces to a packed house.
— Carson Comedy Club presents Comedian Alex Elkin this Friday. 8 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson St. This Friday's comedy show at the Carson Comedy Club inside the Carson Nugget features Comedian Alex Elkin as headliner.
— Live Music with Hired Gunnz 2.0 at Red Dog Saloon. 8 p.m. at 76 North C Street in Virginia City. You won't want to miss this trio of musician's rockin Virginia City this Friday night at the historic Red Dog Saloon. A 19th-century tavern known for it's live music, Chicago–style pizza, cocktails & coffee.
— One Way Street at Living the Good Life. 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. If you like great classic rock ‘n’ roll songs that make you get up and dance, you need to be here at Living the Good Life on Friday. It’s an event you don’t want to miss!
Saturday, March 14
CANCELLED — Virginia City revelers to go nuts at 29th Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry and St. Patrick's party.
— Guided snowshoe hikes with a ranger on the Carson Ranger District. 10 a.m. at Tahoe Meadows, one mile southwest of the summit of Nevada State Route 431 Mt. Rose Highway. The Carson Ranger District on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is pleased to announce the return of the popular Forest Ranger-led snowshoe walks. The walks begin this Saturday, Jan. 25, and will be offered every Saturday through March 28.
— Bed Turning of Quilts Throughout the Ages. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 U.S. Hwy 395 in Gardnerville. The Carson Valley Quilt Guild will present an old fashion “Bed Turning” of quilts throughout the ages at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center on Saturday, March 14.
— Painting and King Cake at Mark Twain Community Center. 11:30 a.m. at 500 Sam Clemens Ave. in Dayton. Hands-on learning to make a King Cake! And we will get to taste it as well! A lot of the time involves yeast rising, so we will also be painting on canvas. It's included!
— We're Alway 'Write' writers group meets at Carson City Library. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. All style and experience of writers welcomed! Come join our safe environment to share your work, work on creative projects and have fun!
— Carson Valley LGBTQ and Friends Social Saturday at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. 2 to 5 p.m. at 1500 Old Hot Springs Rd. in Carson City. The first LGBTQ and Friends Social will be Saturday, March 14th, 2-5pm at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Your RSVP is required for the luncheon. The luncheon is $12 per person NOT including gratuity. Please be generous to your server. Please RSVP by the end of the day Friday, March 13th.
— Students from Douglas, Lyon, Storey and Washoe counties among six Poetry Out Loud finalists to compete Saturday. 12 p.m. at the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts in Reno. The 15th annual competition, free and open to the public, will be held at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in Reno. The competition starts at noon.
— Dayton Kiwanis Casino Night. 5 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center, 164 Pike St. 30th Annual Casino Night by the Kiwanis Club of Dayton Township will be Saturday March 14 at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike Street. Food starts at 5 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m.
— Mangia Tutto Presents Brian Lester. 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 200 N. Stewart St. We invite you to join us Saturday March 14 for dinner, drinks and live music with Brian Lester. Brian will perform acoustically.
— Southbound Train at A to Zen Gift Shop. 7 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. Come enjoy some live music and fun in Carson City on Saturday! It will be quite a jam-packed night. $5 admission at the door.
— Nigel St. Hubbins at Living the Good Life. 8 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Join us for an excellent and intimate nite with Nigel and his one piece orchestra. Lots of fun and great tunes.
— Iron Snake at Max Casino. 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at 900 S. Carson St. There will be plenty of rockin’ music live at Max Casino on Saturday! Come on down and enjoy some entertainment with tasty food and drinks.
— Farris Neon live at Caterpillar's Hookah Lounge. 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. at 314 S. Carson St. Join us at Caterpillar’s Hookah Lounge, 314 S Carson St, Carson City, Saturday March 14th for an evening with Farris Neon and Hookah! Music starts at 9 and goes till midnight. No cover charge!
Sunday, March 15
— St. Patrick's Day Fun Shoot at Capitol City Gun Club. 9 a.m. at 3590 Arrowhead Dr. in Carson City. Come and enjoy a Sunday fun shoot with Capitol City Gun Club! Sign ups will be available at the Pro Shop.
— Meet and Greet at the Fox Brewpub. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 310 S. Carson St. Come and visit your new local photographer in Hunter Carver Photography. He will be at the Fox Brewpub on Sunday and you don’t want to miss out.
— Assortment of Bread Cooking Class at Sierra Chef. 12 to 3 p.m. at 2292 Main Street Suites 3 and 4 in Genoa. Sierra Chef will be cooking Boston brown bread and Irish soda bread as part of its St. Patrick’s Day celebration. It’s a tasty event for all to enjoy. Cost is $65 per person, please arrive on time for class.
