Events and happenings around Carson City for Tuesday, Nov. 6
Good day Carson City, it is Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. It is also Election Day. Polls in Nevada open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, enjoy another day of sunny skies with a hike, brisk walk or bike ride around town. There's both a morning and evening hike offered through Muscle Powered or you can simply walk through downtown Carson City and alongside the capitol building. Also featured today are activities that promote diabetes awareness through Carson Tahoe Health, numerous art showings, local political party election night events and a classic film being shown at the Brewery Arts Center.

Here's what's happening Tuesday:
— Tuesday Morning Walk to Mexican Ditch hosted by Muscle Powered. 9 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for its weekly one hour Tuesday walk to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Meet at Moffat Open Space parking area on Hells Bells Road and Parkhill Drive. Dirt trail. Water and closed-toe shoes required. All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths.
— November is Diabetes Awareness month. Tuesday Diabetes Awareness Classes. Throughout the month, Carson Tahoe Health will be hosting a variety of FREE classes and events to raise awareness and offer support. All classes and events will be located at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center (1470 Medical Pkwy, Suite 250). There are two classes scheduled today: 11 AM-Noon - Exercise for Diabetes Management class, Colleen Bannister and Noon-1 PM - Type I Diabetes & Technology class, Dr. Sharleen Sidhu.
— Tuesday Evening Conditioning Hike to Linear Ditch Trail West hosted by Muscle Powered. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for free evening hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors. Meet in the parking lot at Governor's Field on Evalyn Street off of Roop Street. All hikes start at 5:30 PM. For the winter, these hikes are moving onto paved paths in town and will be 3-5 miles long and with duration of about 1-1/2 hours. Water and sturdy boots or athletic shoes required. PLEASE BRING A FLASHLIGHT because it is dark on these walks.
— GOP Election Night Party at Glen Eagles. 6 p.m. The Carson City Republican Party and Glen Eagles is co-hosting an Election Night Party at Glen Eagles Restaurant, 3700 N. Carson St. Carson City. Join at this lovely venue to view election results from a large screen TV while enjoying a no host bar and appetizers. Celebrate the election outcome with local Republicans beginning at 6 p.m. If you have any questions, contact the Carson City Republican Party staff at 775-841-1800.
— Carson Victory Rollers 'Fresh Meat' Roller Derby beginners program. 6 p.m. Carson City's "Fresh Meat," or beginners to roller derby, have another chance to join in on one of the world's fastest growing sports. Hosted by Carson City's Carson Victory Rollers, the session begins November 6, and the six week program will meet every Tuesday from 6-7:30 at the Carson City Community Center. Skates and pads are not needed to attend the meeting, and information regarding gear and how the game is played will be provided. Women of all ages 17-plus, of all body shapes, sizes, and athletic abilities are welcome to join.
— Citizens' Climate Lobby, Carson City Chapter Monthly Meeting. 6:30 p.m. The Carson City Chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby meets the first Tuesday of every month to work on issues and solutions to climate change. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. The location is 424 Tahoe Drive, Carson City.
— Carson City Classic Cinema Club Presents 'Meet Me in St. Louis' starring Judy Garland. 6:30 p.m. Carson City Classic Cinema Club Presents "Meet Me in St. Louis” starring Judy Garland on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Brewery Arts Center. In the year leading up to the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love. General Admission $5; Senior/Student $3; Free to members. Trivia and discussion begin at 6:30 PM; Film begins at 7 PM. The event is at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall 449 West King Street, Carson City.
— Election Night Watch Party with Carson City Democrats. 7 p.m. Join the Carson City Democratic Party at El Charro Avitia, 4389 S Carson St, Carson City, for its Election Night Party. Watch the election night results with local Democrats beginning at 7:00 p.m. Light hors d'oeuvres. No-Host bar.

— Winter Conditioning Program at Well Being Fitness. 9 a.m. 1851 S Roop St, Unit 145, Carson City. Winter sports and activities are on the horizon! Join us at Well Being (Massage and Functional Fitness) and prepare your body for success. Our Winter Conditioning Program starts on October 29. Two separate 3 week programs are offered w/a one week break (Thanksgiving) between the two.
We focus on strength, dynamic balance and stability, and muscular endurance (yes, that means cardio!) as they relate to winter sports and activities like snow-mobile excursions, snow shoeing, skiing and snowboarding, and all the Nordic and back country activities on your list.
— Fourth annual Pets of the Homeless fundraiser presented by Carpa Nevada, LLC and Downtown Coin, 111 W. Telegraph Street in Carson City. Carpa Nevada is donated all of the profits from the sales of its fine Portuguese olive oils and balsamic vinegar to Pets of the Homeless now through Jan. 31, 2019. Olive oils cost $16 per bottle and balsamic vinegar is priced at $20 per bottle. Call Downtown Coin at 775-883-4653 or visit the store, open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, at 111 W. Telegraph Street in downtown Carson City.
— Veterans Outreach Center Clothing Donation Drive, Nov. 4-11, at the Western Nevada College Veterans Resource Center, third floor of the Cedar Building, as well as on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, first floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union, second floor of the Knowledge Center, and second floor of the Pennington Student Achievement Center. Accepting donations of underwear, gloves, socks, toilet paper and reading glasses.
— Christmas tree permits available on Carson, Bridgeport ranger districts. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits must be purchased in person and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with a limit of two trees per household. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and only valid through Dec. 25, 2018. The Ranger Districts have a limited amount of Christmas tree permits available, and once those allotted permits are sold, no more will be available.
— The Nevada Artists Association (NAA) presents the annual Nevada Day Art Show, now through Nov. 30. Entries in all categories are judged with cash prizes awarded to winners. The NAA Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
— Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is currently seeking individuals and pairs interested in leading interpretive programs in one of our many parks and open spaces. Interested individuals and pairs are encouraged to apply. If interested, go here.
— Nature’s art is in full bloom at the Bristlecone Gallery for the “Nature’s Symphony of Art” children’s showcase sponsored by Arts for Children of Nevada with help from the Jackpot Grant with the Nevada Arts Council. Exhibit runs until until Nov. 9.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others. Depio graduated from Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. He lives in Las Vegas with his family. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E Musser St., Carson City.
