Carson City Democrats celebrate with donations to CIRCLES program, WNC scholarship

There was a $3,000 donation made to the C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Initiative for its work combating long term poverty and a $1,000 donation to a long standing scholarship fund at WNC targeted for Carson City students.

In recognition of the fact that many families in our community, especially those with children, are struggling in this holiday period, the Carson City Democrats conducted a blazingly fast appeal to its members to support a cash drive for the Toys For Tots program.

If you missed them, there will be a viewing party hosted by Carson City Parks and Rec at the Jack C. Davis Observatory at WNC beginning at midnight Tuesday morning, August 13. Otherwise, it's onward and upward into the day with a Cooperative Extension presentation, Shred Kids mountain bike camp, Red Cross sitter certification class, West Coast swing dancing and more.

Election reform advocate to be Carson City Democrats luncheon speaker

Goodman's group advocates for replacing primary elections with a ranked-choice system in which voters would select three candidates in order of preference. The candidate receiving the least votes would be eliminated from the count, with his or her preferences distributed to the other candidates, a process that would be repeated until one achieves a majority.

Polls in Nevada open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, enjoy another day of sunny skies with a hike, brisk walk or bike ride around town. There's both a morning and evening hike offered through Muscle Powered or you can simply walk through downtown Carson City and alongside the capitol building. Also featured today are activities that promote diabetes awareness through Carson Tahoe Health, numerous art showings, local political party election night events and a classic film being shown at the Brewery Arts Center.

She will speak in opposition to Question 1, the Marsy's Law Crime Victims Rights Amendment, which is on the November ballot as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment.
A “no” vote would retain existing victim rights added to the Nevada constitution by a 1996 ballot measure in lieu of replacing them with a more extensive list of victim rights and specific enforcement provisions together known as a “Marsy's Law.”
