League of Women Voters hosts Carson City election forum series beginning Monday
The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums, American Association of University Women Capital (NV) Branch, PFLAG Carson Region, Partnership Carson City, and Carson City Arts & Culture Coalition will present a series of election forums this Monday and Tuesday and again Oct. 15-16.
The free forums will feature state and local candidates and experts on the questions that will appear on the November 6 ballot.
The public is invited to attend the four forums at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 West King Street. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the forums begin at 5:30 p.m. each evening except on Tuesday, Oct. 9, the forum begins at 6 p.m. KNVC Community Radio at 95.1 FM is media sponsor of the forums.
“Voters who attend these forums can become fully informed about the candidates and the ballot questions,” said Jean Laird, LWVNNV Voter Services Chair. “The public is invited to attend and to submit questions for the candidates or about the ballot questions.” The lineups for the four evenings are as follows:
Monday, Oct. 8, 2018: Statewide ballot issues: Marsy’s Law; Pink Tax Exemption; Energy Choice Initiative; Medical Patient Tax Relief Act; Automatic Voter Registration Initiative; Renewable Energy Promotion Initiative.
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018: Statewide constitutional officer candidates including Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Controller, and Attorney General have been invited.
Monday, Oct. 15, 2018: Carson City Board of Supervisors Ward 1: Stacey Giomi, John Wood. Sheriff: Kenny Furlong, Lorne Houle. Justice of the Peace, Dept 2: Kristin Luis, Ryan Russell.
Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018: Congressional District 2: Mark Amodei, Clint Koble. State Senate District 16: Tina Davis-Hersey, Ben Kieckhefer; State Senate District 17: Curtis Cannon, James Settelmeyer. Assembly District 39: Patricia Ackerman, Paul Cwalina, Jim Wheeler; Assembly District 40: Al Kramer, Autumn Zemke.

Early voting is from Saturday, October 20 through Friday, November 2. Early voting takes place on the first floor of the County Courthouse, 885 East Musser Street, Carson City. Election Day is Tuesday November 6.
