Carson City Scores 50 out of 100 in LGBTQ Human Rights Index Survey

(KOLO)-- The city of Reno reported Thursday it received a perfect score on the 2018 Municipal Equality Index, a Human Rights Campaign rating system of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) inclusion in city law and policy.
It is a 31-point improvement since its first assessment in 2013. The city scored 91 on the initial 2018 assessment, with less-than-perfect ratings because of non-discrimination laws and municipal services.

In 2012, two men asked him to prepare a special cake for a local celebration of their upcoming Massachusetts marriage. At the time, Colorado law did not allow same-sex marriage.
Phillips politely declined, saying his religious faith didn’t allow him to participate expressly via his art in celebrating their marriage. He offered to sell them any product he made, but he wouldn’t prepare one specifically endorsing a gay union (nor Halloween, alcohol or nudity).
LGBTQ veterans may be eligible for a discharge upgrade

If they were discharged with a less-than-honorable discharge based on their sexual orientation, they may be eligible for a discharge upgrade.

Presenters include transgender persons and healthcare professionals with specialized experience treating and supporting them. A question and answer session will follow the discussion. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
National HIV Testing Day slated for Saturday

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, too many people are unaware they have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In the United States, nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV, and almost one in seven (14 percent) do not know they are infected. In 2014 in Nevada, there were 420 new HIV diagnoses and more than 9,831 persons living with HIV/AIDS.

Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health to use settlement money for immunization efforts

Overwhelming response for Sept. 16 showing of movie 'Trans' requires a larger theater, tickets on sale

When first announced, the event quickly filled theater capacity and “sold out,” but multiplex Galaxy quickly scheduled the screening in a a larger theater, and there are now ample seats available.
