It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

Stan Jones appointed as Carson City's newest Supervisor, to take Lori Bagwell's remaining term

The Carson City Board of Supervisors appointed the newest Board member on Thursday afternoon, to fill the role of Lori Bagwell, who was recently elected as Carson City’s newest mayor. Her seat represents Ward 3.

Feedback sought with Carson City arts and culture survey

Carson City to hosts public survey to gather details about the arts and culture

The City is asking the community to weigh in on Arts and Culture in Carson City. Residents are asked to complete a short survey which will provide valuable information to best meet the needs of our community and create a positive impact through Arts and Culture.

Five Carson City residents vying for Ward 3 seat on Board of Supervisors, appointment on Nov. 4

While the seat for Ward 2 will be filled following the election on Nov. 4, another seat is open and will be filled by appointment.

The seat for Ward 3 is currently held by Supervisor Lori Bagwell, who will be vacating now that she has been elected Carson City’s mayor.

Brewery Arts Center director breathes new life into Carson City arts community

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City has been around since 1976, and it was the hope of then arts activist Betty Block (Brogan) and other artists who needed a special and permanent space to showcase their diverse talents that the BAC would serve as the very heart of the local arts community bringing the arts under one roof.

Carson City outlines department closures, services available in response to coronavirus threat

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. As closures are announced please visit carson.org/covid19 for information and updates about government services.

Carson City launches 'I Voted’ sticker design art competition for high school students

Cab Calloway Orchestra, Feast of Chocolate, Artsy Fartsy jewelry show and more: Carson City region readies for weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

Carson City Jazz and Beyond to auction 3 mannequins during last week of festival

Mile High Jazz Band Association announces that mannequins will be auctioned off by silent auction during Jazz & Beyond concerts. Proceeds benefit Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition's scholarship fund for a student of the arts.

An Open Studio Art event featuring Moongirl Studio will be presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association as part of the 2019 Jazz & Beyond Festival, and is supported by grants from the Carson City Cultural Commission, The Nevada Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, and private donations.

Carson City, Tonopah partner for 10-month ‘Basin to Range’ Art Exchange program

On Aug. 5, Carson City’s Mark Salinas and Tonopah’s Kat Galli launched a 10-month collaborative project as part of the Nevada Art Council’s Basin to Range project, which pairs urban and rural entities to “support long-term structural change in communities across Nevada through strategic planning, community engagement, and artistic design.”

16th Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival opens Friday at Bliss, Governor's Mansion

The 16th Annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music and Art Festival kicks off Friday at Bliss Mansion, 608 Elizabeth Street from 4 to 6 p.m., and continues that evening at the Governor’s Mansion, directly across Mountain Street. The free event includes live music, art, food, and tours of the Bliss Mansion.

Artists Wanted: Carson City arts and culture agency seeks 2 muralists to make their mark

The Carson City Department of Arts and Culture is looking for two muralists to bring a little color to the capitol city.

The theme for the mural is “Reach for the Stars” and will be placed on a two sided wall near Empire Elementary School on La Loma Drive between Gordonia Drive and Stanton Drive.
