Virtual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, pictures with Santa and more highlight weekend events in Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. Combined with live music and dinner specials at Living the Good Life, the state capital has events lined up for the holidays! Read on for more information.

New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing.

Below is a rundown of events over the next three days.

Friday, December 4
Fa La La Fridays in Carson City (all day). Hosted by CC Downtown Business Association, Agency 36 and Carson Jewelry & Loan, Friday shopping special offered from participating businesses each Friday thru Christmas. Click the link above for more information and a list of participating businesses.

Candy Cane Express, Train of Lights steam up for the holidays in Virginia City (all day). The V&T’s traditional Candy Cane Express will also be running during the day at 11:30am, 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. The Train of Lights will be running at 5 and 6:30 p.m. starting Nov. 27 and running Friday and Saturday evenings through Dec. 20. All trains will be thoroughly disinfected between runs and set up at half capacity for social distancing. Masks are required. Tickets will be limited, so reservations are highly recommended.

Carson Mall Craft Fair, Santa Claus brings holiday spirit to Carson City. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. The annual holiday craft fair has taken up residence in the Carson Mall just in time for the season of giving, with health considerations in place. Shoppers are encouraged to come into the mall, where masks are required, to buy their holiday wares from over twenty local vendors.

Nevada Artists Association Nevada Day Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. Virtual Hour of Code hosted by the Carson City Library. 4 p.m. via Zoom. Click the link above for more information. Do you enjoy coding? Then join us for one hour of computer programming each month! No prior experience needed. Build up your programming skills as you learn how to create an electronic greeting card that you can share with your teacher, family, or friends!

Carson City's annual holiday celebration, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, goes virtual. 5 p.m. Follow the Carson City Chamber Facebook Page to receive updates as to the show format.Thanks to NGBN TV and dedicated music teachers, the show will go on at 5 pm and can be viewed in the comfort of your own home while sipping hot chocolate.Our fifth graders have been learning the tunes and rehearsing outside to safely prepare for their video debut filmed by their teacher. Music teacher Christina Bourne of Mark Twain Elementary coordinated the various productions.

Minden Park Gazebo Lighting. 5:45 p.m. at 1610 Esmeralda Ave. The Event kicks off at 5:45 p.m. At 6 p.m. the countdown will start to light the Gazebo! Due to COVID-19 protocols there will not be any extra activities this year.

Virtual Open Mic Night hosted by A to Zen. 6 p.m. A to Zen is back to hosting a virtual Open Mic Night. Phones, cameras and other recording devices can be used to record your performance at home. Click the link above for more information.

Ladies Pool Tournament at Bulldog Billiards. 7 to 10 p.m. at 251 Jeanelle Dr. Suite 9. Friday night is Ladies' Night! We will be hosting a Ladies' 8-ball APA rules, double elimination tournament. Buy-in is $8 with a $2 greens fee. Sign-ups start at 6pm.

Saturday, December 5
Carson City's Wild Hose Theater offers Disney virtual workshops (all day). Join two of your favorite Disney Princesses for an entertaining and fun interactive workshop, through Carson City's Wild Horse Theater, to build literacy skills using imagination and creativity. Workshop includes storytelling, singing, interactive movements and, most importantly, having fun. Space is limited. To purchase tickets, go to www.wildhorsetheater.com.

Douglas County Historical Society's Annual Holiday Gala. 10 a.m. at Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 U.S. Hwy. 395 N .Gardnerville. Join us for our annual Holiday Gala on Saturday, December 5th. Festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. and include The Gallery of Trees, Santa’s Cookie Shop, Gingerbread Houses on Display and Selfies with Santa. Finish the day by watching the Parade of Lights from our front lawn, arrive before the roads close at 4:00 p.m. and the parade starts at 5 p.m with free admission.

Santa to Zoom visit Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is celebrating a Santa visit on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We are having Santa, via Zoom, into the Children’s Museum so that each child can talk and see Santa!

Free Pictures with Santa at Carson City's Battle Born Harley Davidson. 12 to 4 p.m. at 2900 Research Way. Santa Claus is coming to our store to meet you! Bring your kids, pets, friends and family to get a unique picture with Santa on a Harley! You can also write him a letter with your Christmas wish list!

Toys for Tots Toy Drive. 12 to 5 p.m. at The Firm Cryo Spa & Wellness Center, 602 N. Curry St. Bring a Toy to The Firm Cryo Spa & Wellness Center on Saturday. The first 100 persons with an unwrapped toy will receive a complimentary day pass to the detox lounge. As an official drop off location for our local Toys for Tots, you may drop off unwrapped toys any time during business hours.

Pole and Wine Night at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio. 5:30 p.m. at 315 N. Carson St. Join us for a mini pole lesson to learn some fun moves, then it is an open gym for you and your friends. Be creative, try your moves and, you finally get to come to play on the pole. Bring your own wine and we will have the treats!

Dinner and Music at Living the Good Life. 7 to 11 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. There will be a dinner special and live music Saturday featuring Rebeca Chase from 7 to 11 p.m. The kitchen is now open on the weekends.

Sunday, December 6

Raiders Chapter Game Watch at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. 9:30 a.m. at 301 N. Carson St. This week we will be doing a food spread and food is free to all PAID memberships and if not yet a member we ask for a couple bucks to the bucket and you are more than welcome to indulge.

Six local bowlers were inducted in the third class of the Carson Country Bowling Association Hall of Fame at their annual meeting on Saturday, April 27, at HomeGrown Bowl. Carson Country is the local association of the U.S. Bowling Congress.

Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.

A number of new Junior Park Rangers received their badges as they were sworn in as part of the annual Junior Park Rangers Day in Carson City.

Douglas County officials have announced that construction will begin soon on the first phase of the Muller Parkway Project.
