Longtime labor leader Danny Coyle dies in Carson City

Longtime Nevada labor leader Danny Coyle died of cancer in Carson City early Saturday morning, July 17. He was 74 years old.
At the time of his death, he was president of the retiree chapter of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 4041/AFL-CIO, an organization he founded. He was concurrently legislative vice-chair of the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans. He had also served as president of AFSCME Local 4041/AFL-CIO.

Mary Louise Payne

Mary Louise Payne, of Carson City, died May 2, 2010, at age 81. Mrs. Payne was born June 13, 1928 in Little Rock, Ark. She is survived by husband Don Payne and daughter Debbie Payne. Autumn Funerals and Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Ann "Bobbe" Perry

Elizabeth Ann "Bobbe" Perry, 74, died Friday, April 30, 2010, in Carson City. She was born Sept. 10, 1935, in Alabama to Clyde M. and Mary E. Beck. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Bobbe Jean Horton. Elizabeth is survived by husband Bob Perry, son Curtis Horton, stepsons Rick and Robert David Perry, daughter Lee Ann Horton, stepdaughter Linda Sue O'Connor, sister Charlotte Dill, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m.

Kenneth Watkins

Kenneth Watkins, 89, passed away Aug. 3, 2008 in Carson City. Kenneth was born Sept. 16, 1918 in Listie, Pa., to Wilbur and Viola Watkins. Kenneth was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Mediterranean Theater, where he served as a staff sergeant in charge of the armory on a B-17 Aircraft. After his discharge, Kenneth and his wife, Dolores, traveled to Alaska where they spent a number of years in the Alaskan frontier building their own home.

Karen "Kay" Johnson

Karen "Kay" Johnson, born Sept. 2, 1943, passed away peacefully at her home on April 29, 2010. She courageously battled lung cancer for 14 months. Kay was a very devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed online activities as well as playing a nickel or two with her extended family. She was loved by many and never met a stranger.

Velma "Dolores" Watkins

Velma "Dolores" Watkins, 93, a Carson City resident, passed away May 1, 2010 in Carson City. Dolores was born Jan. 24, 1917 in Belleville, Kan., to Grover Leroy Neal and Bessie Leona Hoffman.She spent the majority of her life working with various federal government agencies, retiring in 1973 from the Bureau of Public Roads. In 1944 she married Kenneth Watkins, and they moved to Nevada in 1965, then moved to Idaho for a short period of time but moved back to Nevada for good.

Verl Anderson, 91, died peacefully at his home in Carson City, April 14, 2010. He was born in Elsinore, Utah, to Chris and Caroline Anderson on Oct. 31, 1918. He was the last of 14 children. Verl married Margaret Crane in 1940. He volunteered for Naval duty at the onset of WWII, serving six years on cruisers and destroyers. After the war he settled into the Sacramento area where he began a family. Jack took all sorts of jobs to provide for his family, including handy man, apartment manager and real estate sales.
