This has been a very hard year for all of us in Carson City, and the world in general. I think we can all agree we're happy to see this one pass by, and are looking forward to welcoming in the New Year. Especially with the knowledge that vaccines are right on the horizon for the public, we only have a little while left before things can return to normal (hopefully).

A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, concealing a firearm without a permit and a misdemeanor theft warrant.

It was a year of uncertainty. A year when we felt a need for something more. A need for peace. It was a year that felt similar to 2020. It was 2001.

The year that we watched the airplanes crash into the Twin Towers. The year we felt hopeless and confused and a desire to connect with people and with God. Seeing that need, the Carson City First United Methodist Church began what has become one of the most cherished Christmas traditions in Carson City.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. Celebrating Nevada Day in safety and style, the successful statewide socially distanced pop-up performances concluded in Reno and Carson City with multiple stops. The activation, designed to inspire the community to download and adopt the COVID Trace contact tracing app, resulted in five times the usual daily downloads indicating the community is motivated to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Chase will open its first Carson City branch bank Tuesday on South Carson Street and Eagle Station as part of its northern Nevada expansion, making it the 10th location in the region.

On Sunday morning, 40 Nevada National Guardsmen and community members participated in the ninth annual memorial run/walk remembering those who were killed at the IHOP in Carson City on Sept. 6, 2011.

The Nevada Guard is set to host its ninth annual memorial run/walk on Sunday, Sept. 6, to commemorate the victims of the International House of Pancakes shooting that occurred in 2011. The run/walk will start at what used to be the Carson City IHOP, 3883 S. Carson St., at 7 a.m. Sunday.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of third degree arson after allegedly setting fires in a field near the I-580 off ramp and William Street.

For Sierra Nevada Realtors, election season is over. The association, whose members serve rural Northern Nevada areas including Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton and Fallon, recently held elections for its 2021 Board of Directors.

Hello fellow anglers. I finally got out to do some serious fishing last weekend. Renee and I joined our friends Tom And Shelly Blotter at Bridgeport Reservoir.

The trip started out a little precarious. We arrived on Saturday afternoon to a steady 25 to 50 mph wind. Which kept us off the lake until Sunday.

On Friday, May 1, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was advised that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was pursuing a stolen vehicle south bound on Highway 395 entering Douglas County.

On May 1, 2020 at 11:45 am Carson City Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) located a stolen red Audi 2 door motor vehicle stolen out of California, in Carson City, Nevada.

CCSO attempted to stop the Audi but the driver failed to stop his motor vehicle. CCSO chased the Audi into Douglas County, Nevada and requested assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

A car chase involving a stolen vehicle began just before 12 p.m. Friday afternoon on Carson Street.

The driver of the stolen vehicle led deputies on a pursuit going up to speeds of 80 mph heading south on Carson Street into Douglas County.

Spooner Junction was closed at 11:50.

At 11:54 deputies reported a hand was waving outside of the sunroof, appearing to show something deputies could not identify.

At 11:55 the chase was approaching Mica Drive.

At 11:57 the chase passed Stephanie Lane.

At 11:58 the vehicle turned East on Johnson Lane.

UPDATE: According to Animal Control Officer Stephanie Baeta, the dog is safely in custody at the Carson City Humane Society.

What was relayed to Officer Baeta by the shepherds is that the dog attacked the sheep, and the presumed owner of the dog attempted to pull the dog away, at which point the dog attempted to bite the owner, so the owner abandoned the dog on the scene. The shepherds were left to contain the dog, and animal control arrived on scene shortly after.

The dog, who Officer Baeta reports has been very gentle and sweet with animal control staff, is in a ten day bite quarantine. If no owner comes forward to claim the dog after ten days, it will become property of the humane society and they will be evaluated for adoption.

She also said they were able to save one lamb following the attack.

Two ewes (mother sheep) and four baby lambs were killed Thursday after an unleashed dog attacked the herd of firefighting sheep that are currently working their way through Carson City's foothills mowing down cheat grass.

A gifted poet friend of mine, Jack Wright, penned a verse to welcome a flattening of the COVID-19 curve.

A Carson City woman and two others were arrested for suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and other charges after Placer County sheriff's investigators tracked the suspects footprints following a burglary in the Lake Tahoe town of Kings Beach.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.
