The 2020 Jazz & Beyond Music and Art Festival this August will include the second annual Carson City Open Studios Tour on Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at multiple studios throughout Carson City.

Historical Coin Press No. 1 inside the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, will be minting a special medallion commemorating Abraham Curry, the first superintendent of the Carson City Mint.

More than a hundred teachers, parents and community members took to Carson Street in Carson City on Wednesday to protest proposed budget cuts to education.

Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. It is one thing to study history; it is another witness it. Visitors to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City this Tuesday, Feb. 4, will find themselves in history’s front row as the museum celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint. Just as it did 150 years earlier to the day, the Mint’s Coin Press No. 1 will be pressing silver coins, complete with the famous “CC” mint mark.

The Nevada State Museum is offering a step back into Carson City’s history on Saturday, Jan. 11, complete with a presentation from the city’s founding family.

It was in January of 1870 when the doors of the Carson City Mint were opened to the public by its first superintendent — and Carson City’s founder — Abe Curry.

The Orchestra Program of the Carson City School District will hold its Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center.

The biggest holiday celebration in Carson City, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, is scheduled to bring holiday cheer to the masses on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival has been the official beginning of the holiday season for years, with the lighting of the great Christmas tree on Capitol grounds. Keep an eye out for Santa Claus, the Grinch, Max the dog, and Carson City's 5th graders who will be singing their hearts out while the tree is lit!

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, which provides oral healthcare to children in northern Nevada, will make stops at schools in Carson Valley and Carson City, Oct. 1-3. Run through the Nevada Health Centers, staff aboard the Ronald McDonald mobile center focuses on treatment, education, prevention and advocacy to children.

David Wise, age 82, passed away on August 29, 2019. Dave was a 2nd generation Nevadan born in Carson City on July 14, 1937 to Roy and Lynn (Stewart) Wise. He was an amazing man who loved life, he was easy going, caring, funny, loving, and always had the most positive attitude. He was always smiling, even in the end.

He was so well liked, loved by others and had so many friends who thought highly of him. He loved his family and his extended family who just simply became his family.
