My neighbor Patrick Mobley had an open house to display his model train layout. The open house happens around twice twice a year at his Pine Lane home in Carson City — one in summer and another, usually, in the fall.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides. Running Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer children and adult focused haunted railbike rides at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

Take advantage of the crisp fall air and the gorgeous high desert scenery with a ride on the Virginia Truckee Railroad’s Pumpkin Patch Steam train.

The Ghost Train is returning to Carson City from the dead. The Carson City Railroad Association, in partnership with Wild Horse Productions, will be reviving the yearly Halloween tradition of the Ghost Train at Mills Park in Carson City.

CARSON CITY — As a result of COVID-19, V&T Railway Commission has announced that fan favorite, Polar Express, has been cancelled for the 2020 season. In its place, V&T Railway will host Santa’s Drive-Thru Village, a socially distanced holiday event, Dec. 11-13 and Dec. 18-24.

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Following the successful launch of V&T Railway's Carson City’s Carson Canyon Railbikes, the organization has announced a lineup of special event railbike tours for the remaining 2020 season. In addition to the standard Carson River Canyon tour, riders can expect extended hours, themed décor and added entertainment attractions.

Heading into the July 4 holiday weekend, there’s a number of activities around the Carson City region to celebrate. New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to bring a mask and practice social distancing.

CARSON CITY — On the heels of an incredibly successful 2019 season and due to popular demand, V&T Railway has begun early ticket sale booking for the 2020 season. As with prior seasons, the 2020 season will include vintage steam train rides from Carson City to Virginia City, Toast of the Canyon wine and beer trains and the popular Polar Express in addition to other themed and special event trains.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City launches its 35th year of Santa Train the weekend of Dec. 7 and tickets are available online and at the museum’s depot now.
