Carson City Barbell Club, which aims to forage strength in community, is the capital city's first USAW Weightlifting Club. There will be an open house this Thursday, Oct. 19 to go through its programs, tour the gym and answer any questions.

Can a short, four-minute workout be as effective as 30 minutes of cardio? While it may sound too good to be true, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism, you’ll be happy to hear it’s true.

David Kimball, a JumpStart senior from Pioneer High School attending Western Nevada College in Carson City, described the experience of taking his welding certification exam as the greatest obstacle for him to overcome.

To discuss classroom-space expansion plans for Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS), the Carson City School District will host an in-person meeting in the EVMS gym, Thursday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. The Mix Nutrition is Carson City’s newest healthy, fitness-oriented smoothie and juice bar that has opened up shop on Retail Drive.

The Lyon County School District is celebrating graduation this week through a series of ceremonies Thursday in Dayton and Silver Springs, Friday in Smith Valley and Fernley and Saturday in Yerington.

Carson High School is pleased to announce underclassmen (grades 9, 10 and 11) may come to the school and return educational materials (belonging to the school) and retrieve personal items Thursday, June 4.

It is hard to believe that two months ago we were all going about business as usual, going to the mall, to the gym, seeing family and friends and having dinner together at our favorite restaurant. Now, with life in lockdown, the way forward feels uncertain and bleak. We are faced with a pandemic we didn’t see coming, which has caused an economic crisis and cost many lives. This is particularly difficult to think about when you consider those most affected are the elderly and people with pre-existing medical conditions.

Heading into the start of the work week, temperatures will be comparatively cool compared to last week with daytime highs near 55. “We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.

Services will be held on Saturday February 29, 2020 at 11:00 at the Carson Colony Gym, 2900 South Curry Street, Carson City, NV 89703.

Viewing will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am before the services. Burial will be at the Stewart Cemetery after services. Fellowship and potluck will follow back at the Carson Colony Gym. Everyone is welcomed. Flowers or food donations is appreciated.
