Carson City Sheriff to speak at Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sheriff Kenny Furlong, the 26th Sheriff to serve Ormsby County/Carson City since 1861, and the 6th Sheriff of the Combined Municipality of the City/County of Carson City.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Kenneth T. Furlong, the 26th sheriff to serve Carson City and Ormsby County since 1861. Among the topics to be discussed will be school security, the Sheriff Department's deescalation policy, and what may be unintended consequences of current juvenile detention practices. He will also be prepared to field questions on any issues of concern to the community.

COVID-19 has devestated small businesses around the country, especially those that rely on foot traffic as a means of getting people through the door. But as people work to protect their health by staying indoors and ordering online, small businesses tend to suffer. However, in Carson City, the community response has been strong this holiday season, and shoppers have been taking advantage of both in-person shopping as well as online shopping through local vendors.

Even with the Phase 2 opening set to begin Friday, the Carson City Wine Walk will hold off on their monthly event until at least July.

Carson City Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights this Friday

Since 1988, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights has heralded in Carson City’s holiday season. The festival has grown from a simple tree lighting on the capitol grounds to involving the entire downtown core attracting thousands to enjoy this very special event.

The biggest holiday celebration in Carson City, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, is scheduled to bring holiday cheer to the masses on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival has been the official beginning of the holiday season for years, with the lighting of the great Christmas tree on Capitol grounds. Keep an eye out for Santa Claus, the Grinch, Max the dog, and Carson City's 5th graders who will be singing their hearts out while the tree is lit!

There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. Brass quintet to play at BAC's Expresso Yourself Cafe as part of Carson City wine walk
