This weekend appears to have gone to the dogs — and cats — as Maddie's Pet Adoption Days continue Saturday at venues throughout the Carson City area.

Those looking to add a new furry family member to their households will be able to do so sans an adoption fee this weekend due to a private foundation grant to Maddie's Pet Project in Nevada, part of Maddie's Fund, that covers the costs for local non-profit animal shelters and rescue organizations.

Saturday may also be a good time to do some early Christmas shopping while getting into the Yuletide spirit at the 24th annual Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

— Free Pet Adoption Days in Carson City and surrounding communities, 9 a.m. Carson City residents can find their new best friend this weekend thanks to Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, where future pet parents can adopt for free. Looking for love this holiday season? Hundreds of dogs and cats are waiting for you at local animal shelters and rescue groups in Nevada, where pet adoptions will be free through Nov. 17 during Maddie's Pet Adoption Days. Carson City celebrates 24th annual CHS Holiday Craft Fair this Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City. One of Carson City's longest running holiday events for buyers and sellers of all things creative, the Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair continues Saturday in the CHS gym. This 24th annual event promises to be the best one yet with more than 140 booths and Santa as well as a raffle. Great handcrafted items for everyone as well as culinary arts treats and food to be enjoyed. Entry is $2 and includes a raffle ticket.

Free parenting workshop: Conflict Resolution, hosted by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1870 Russell Way in Carson City. Classes are free with lunch and child care provided on site. Reservations are requested. Call (775)882-8820 or email matts@bgcwn.org.

— Carson City Moose Lodge Holiday Bazaar, sponsored by Women of the Moose, Chapter 2453, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1475 Old Hot Springs Road #9 in Carson City. Featuring craft vendors, shopping, raffles, prizes and breakfast.

— Nevada State Museum Autumn Booking Signing, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 600 N. Carson Street in Carson City. The museum will also feature a lecture on hero war horses and dogs of World War I from 2-3 p.m. Cost of the presentation is $8 for adults, and free for museum members and children ages 17 and under.

— Free dog training class, hosted by Kendall Brown, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Carson Plaza Retirement Home, 2120 E. Long Street in Carson City. Join professional local trainers Kendall and Chandler Brown for a free dog training class covering basic and advanced obedience and discussing various behavioral issues such as barking, digging, separation anxiety and nipping. Dogs of all breeds four months and older welcome on leash. We will meet in the lobby of the Carson Plaza Retirement Home.

Final weekend for Mamma Mia! Saturday and Sunday. This Western Nevada Musical Theatre production has an effect on audiences that is pure joy. For the last two numbers of our curtain call, the audience poured into the aisles and danced to the music, singing along with the cast, clapping and cheering wildly. NOTE: Since NDOT is closing all roads between Reno and Carson City from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. this weekend, the matinees of Mamma Mia! previously scheduled at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17 and 18 will instead start at 2:30 p.m. to allow our audiences enough time to make it to the performance. — Western Nevada Astronomical Society free presentation on the "Big Ears" of the Owens Valley Radio Observatory, 6:30 p.m. inside the Jack C. Davis Observatory above the Western Nevada College campus in Carson City. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Brewery Arts Center Celtic Music Series: "The Blarney Man," featuring Keith Shannon, inside the Black Box Theater at 449 W. King Street in Carson City, 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for BAC Members, seniors, and students, $18 in advance, and $20 at the door. Comedian Milt Abel headlines Carson Comedy Club, 8 p.m. Milt Abel headlines the Carson Comedy Club this Saturday night inside the Carson Nugget, located at 507 N Carson Street in Carson City. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Milt’s style of stand-up comedy is clean, clever, and funny. His humor has always been devoid of stereotypes, cheap shots, or laughter at anyone's expense; in other words , never divisive or derisive. With material focusing on everyday experiences about his wife and kids, travels, and how we relate to the world around us; audiences always come away feeling good about how they chose to laugh.

Tiffani and Bailee's 6th Sealed Toy Drive underway now through Dec. 9, drop off boxes throughout Carson City. Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those of you who didn't know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. So it was no surprise to those closest to her that when the social worker assigned to her case asked her what she needed, Tiffani replied with, "How can I help?" There are multiple locations throughout the Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno area.

Fourth annual Pets of the Homeless fundraiser presented by Carpa Nevada, LLC and Downtown Coin, 111 W. Telegraph Street in Carson City. Christmas tree permits available on Carson, Bridgeport ranger districts. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase now through Dec. 25. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits must be purchased in person and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with a limit of two trees per household. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and only valid through Dec. 25, 2018. The Ranger Districts have a limited amount of Christmas tree permits available, and once those allotted permits are sold, no more will be available.

— The Nevada Artists Association (NAA) presents the annual Nevada Day Art Show, now through Nov. 30. Entries in all categories are judged with cash prizes awarded to winners. The NAA Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

Carson City Art Gallery features Show by Erik Holland. 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Celebrate the artwork of Erik Holland. He has worked as an artist his entire adult life. He started painting murals in Fairbanks, Alaska in the 1990's. He then moved to Reno, Nevada, achieving his dream of living in the high desert. He has had a one man show in Reno every year since 2001. The show was born on a desire to depict the many sides of America. Amerika is spelled with a K to denote concern with our troubled times. The images come from the life of artist Erik Holland, starting in 1980, when he painted "Spirit of the Eighties" The show is in fact a retrospective of the artist's life from 1980 to the present. — The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others. Six local bowlers were inducted in the third class of the Carson Country Bowling Association Hall of Fame at their annual meeting on Saturday, April 27, at HomeGrown Bowl. Carson Country is the local association of the U.S. Bowling Congress.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will hold a "Sheep Talk" this Monday, April 29 from noon to 1 p.m. so residents can learn from Carson City staff about the popular fuel reduction program used annually with the use of "firefighting" sheep.

A number of new Junior Park Rangers received their badges as they were sworn in as part of the annual Junior Park Rangers Day in Carson City.
