Tahoe South extends summer with festivals, live music and lakefront laser show

According to the calendar, summer is coming to a close but South Lake Tahoe is refusing to acknowledge it. Tahoe South will host a magnitude of events extending the season from Labor Day into October with entertainment, culinary festivals, music, outdoor recreation, competitions and a lakefront laser show.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND
Heavenly Village Carnival, Art & Music Festival, Aug. 31-Sept. 2, includes caricature artists, jugglers and a Classic Car Show & Shine. With live music all weekend, Heavenly Village will have two stages for 14 regional/local artists performing bluegrass, funk, country and rock ’n roll. The car show will exhibit classics, early stock cars, exotics, sports cars and hot rods. (theshopsatheavenly.com)

Labor Day Lasers at Lakeview returns to Lakeview Commons, Sunday, Sept. 2, from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. With a dozen local vendors, patrons can purchase handcrafted goods and clothing, nosh at food trucks and imbibe from the beer and wine garden. Once the sun sets at 8:30 p.m. lasers will flash through the sky reflecting on the towering pines and the lake while a live DJ synchronizes the show to music. (tahoesouth.com/labor-day)

Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys will still be rockin’ when the Scorpions roll into town Friday, Aug. 31. Playing their hits “Rock You Like A Hurricane” and “Nothing Like You,” the German band will be accompanied by special guest Queensryche. (tahoesouth.com/events)

Tahoe Area Mountain Bike Association’s 8th annual Rose to Toads challenges athletes to ride over 62 miles from Mount Rose to the famous Mr. Toads Wild Ride course in Meyers, Sunday, Sept. 2. The route includes more than 8,000 feet of climbing and 10,000 feet of descents. (www.tamba.org)

FALL FESTIVALS
Sample the Sierra’s 9th annual farm-to-fork event is Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Bijou Community Park in South Lake Tahoe. With booths filled by local restaurants, wineries, distilleries and breweries, patrons get to pair expertly crafted dishes with beverages only found in the Sierra Nevada. The 24th annual Oktoberfest at Camp Richardson brings ethnic food and desserts complemented by authentic German beer and wines, Oct. 6-7. Weekend activities include live music, a climbing wall, pumpkin patch, bounce house and a bungee platform. With the Kokanee salmon swimming upstream, locals and visitors celebrate the migration at the annual Fall Fish Fest, Oct. 6-7 at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. Running fanatics converge during the 23rd annual Lake Tahoe Marathon, Oct. 12-14. The event includes a 5k, 10k, half marathon, 16.6 miler, marathon, ultras and the famous triple marathon and triple half marathon trifecta – three half marathons in three days.
