The time has come for Chef Gilles and Tina Galhaut to retire from Z Bistro in Carson City and allow Gilles the opportunity to apply his creative energy to another part of life ⎯ not a decision that was made lightly.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Franktown Apples in Washoe Valley is hosting apple picking Friday through Sunday. In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Nevada State Parks will have a fee-free day on Saturday filled with hikes and tours. Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. 2019 Carson City’s Empty Bowls event was a success! This event would have never been possible without our local restaurants’ donations of several gallons of soup. This year was our first year awarding the best, most popular soup served. It was a very difficult decision to make as all of the soups were phenomenal, but here are our top three winners!

Celebrating the holidays around Carson City is a magic and glorious time, where the community comes together to celebrate and to give through several charity functions. Many in the community are grateful to have a roof over their head and food to eat without much of a struggle. But unfortunately for many families and individuals, having regular meals doesn't come easy.

Cucina Lupo, Carson City’s newest Italian restaurant, hosted its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday.

CARSON CITY — Returning for the 2019 season, the V&T Railway’s popular Toast of the Canyon train rides kicks off on Saturday, June 15 and will feature area wineries, distilleries and breweries. The event, which runs every other Saturday through October, takes passengers into the Carson River Canyon to enjoy libations and appetizers.

Elaine de Kooning (1918-1989) was an American painter, teacher, and critic known for her work with abstract expressionism. Her portraiture often features friends and family, but her most famous sitter was President JFK. Elaine de Kooning was a social activist, especially the women’s movement.

Henri Matisse is known for his fluid use of color. He was a printmaker and sculptor, but he's primarily known as a painter. Along with artists like Picasso, he helped to change the art world forever.

No matter what your current skill level, you can learn to adapt his style and apply it to your art and your chosen medium. At the same time you can learn more about Matisse himself.

All levels are welcome.
