Franktown Apples in Washoe Valley is hosting apple picking Friday through Sunday. In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Nevada State Parks will have a fee-free day on Saturday filled with hikes and tours. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. The owner, Mark Estee, is also the proprietor of several other local restaurants including Carson City’s The Union, Gardnerville’s Overland Restaurant and Pub, and Reno’s Liberty Food and Wine Exchange, as well as Chez Louie in the Nevada Museum of Art.

The Union — a partnership of Reno-based investors — is scheduled to open this summer at 302 North Carson Street, site of the old Lake Tahoe Brewing Company, which closed in January 2016 ahead of its owner Michael Candelario's arrest on fraud charges.

Tahoe Ridge Winery will open in the former Station Grille restaurant location, across from the Carson Mall on Carson Street. The Chamber notes the “winery is a great upscale fit for our city and will be a great addition to our tourism offerings as well.
