Here's what's happening Monday:
— Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'New Crop 2019' exhibit. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "New Crop 2019", by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sculptor Mark Combs gives viewers two approaches to his metalwork. His earlier distressed metal car-part sculptures are ornamented with soldered rods and bolts reflecting a ruptured system both socially and figuratively. His carefully hammered bone pieces came into shape after hours of forging as a nod to death and celebrations of life. Photographer Frances Melhop documents aging rural structures with classic color photography. In Vanish, her printed enlargements of unnamed 19th century portraits on silk are elevated to fly across our vision like fleeting memories.
— Creative Kids Camp offered at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. This year, the Creative Kids Camp at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center is exploring nature through arts and crafts. Children can create a variety of items inspired by nature including garden stepping stones and rock accents. Dragon flies will soar in and out of a yard. We will capture the wind in a water bottle. And feeding the flighty feathered friends will be fun. And among other crafts, we may find some silly snails. See the video here. Kids ages 6-13 will make items great for the garden or indoors. All inspired by nature. The Creative Kids Camp runs June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to noon.
— Children's Museum in Carson City to host summer science camp. 9 a.m. The Children's Museum in Carson City will host a Summer Science Camp this year. Participants will get hands on lessons in science, art, music and literary projects tied to the Carson River watershed, as well as learning about regional geology and mining, geothermal and solar energy, biomes of Northern Nevada and hot air balloons. The Science Camp is sponsored by Southwest Gas. The camp is $100 per child for Children's Museum of Northern Nevada members and $150 per child for non-members. The camp is June 24-28, 2019, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Go to www.cmnn.org/other/memberships and camps to sign up! Or call the office at 775-884-2226.

— Legislation to stop climate change the topic at Carson City Democratic luncheon. 11:30 a.m. The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Chas Macquarie of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby. He will explain how the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763) could bring down the emissions fueling climate change by putting a price on carbon pollution and returning those revenues to households. The law promises to reduce U.S. emissions by 40 percent or more in the first 12 years and 90 percent by 2050. Chas has long been active in the community. He is past president of the Rotary Club of Carson City, and was a founding member of Muscle Powered and Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City. In 2014 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Governor’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board in honor of his work supporting bicyclists and pedestrians in the Silver State. He is former CEO of Lumos & Associates, a Northern Nevada civil engineering, planning, surveying, and materials testing firm. He is past president of the Nevada Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and past Chair of the Northern Nevada Branch of the American Public Works Association. This event will be in the banquet room of Carson City's Round Table, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway.
