Nevada honors Carson City Elementary teacher for national recognition

Soroptimist International of Carson City wishes to thank all the sponsors, donors and each and every one of the 51 loyal members of our community who played in the 16th Annual Stroke to Help golf tournament making it the success it was.

In the past two years, 654 people lost their lives in traffic crashes on Nevada’s roadways. This number not only represents a tragedy in terms of the loss of life, but also in terms of the lasting effect a traffic crash can have on those who are left to grieve.

Two Carson City men accused of first degree murder in the September killing of an Oregon man have been extradited to Klamath County and will go before a judge on Monday.

Silver City, Nevada - There will be a "meet and greet" with New Zealand Artist Sophie Scott, the current visiting artist at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City, on Thursday, October 19th from 6pm-8pm at the Silver City School House at 385 High Street.

There are new Department of Defense (DoD) guidelines on sexual orientation, however, many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, and questioning (LGBTQ) veterans may not be aware these changes may benefit them. If they were discharged with a less-than-honorable discharge based on their sexual orientation, they may be eligible for a discharge upgrade.

CARSON CITY — Nevada students are invited to showcase their artistic talents and promote radon awareness by entering the 2018 Nevada Radon Poster Contest, offered by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Radon Education Program. The Oct. 31 deadline to enter is fast approaching.

The Sierra Lutheran Cross Country Team traveled to Folsom, California for the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oc. 14. The weather was clear and cool with a touch of humidity. The course of 3.1 miles winds across a grass field, semi-hard packed dirt trails and gravel roads through Willow Hills Cross Country Course at the Willow Hills Reservoir.

It’s easy to get excited about Halloween as it approaches. October is filled with pumpkin stuff, haunted houses, and plenty of parties. But here in the capital city, we have Nevada Day to anticipate, as well: a day filled with hot air balloons, parade floats, music, competitions, and plenty of Battle Born fun. While you’re waiting for the three-day weekend, go enjoy Monday. Football, swing dancing, and karaoke are all on the menu.

Carson High School junior Ethan Byassee placed first in Race for the Cure held Sunday at City Plaza in downtown Reno. The 17-year-old finished with a time of 17:23. Ethan is a member of the CHS Varsity Cross Country team and Track and Field teams.

A Dayton woman was arrested early Saturday morning for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said, after methamphetamine was found concealed in an Altoids breath mint tin.

It’s a roller derby kind of day. Catch the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center as they scrimmage to raise funds for Moms on the Run.
