Have you heard or seen military helicopters in air space above Lake Tahoe and Carson City over the past few days?
The U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is conducting training using the MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft at the Lake Tahoe Airport.
Training exercises began Wednesday and run through at least Oct. 18. Initial plans were 12 aircraft stationed at the Lake Tahoe airport Oct. 30 but all training options are subject to change. The Marines will also be using a meeting room and hangar at the airport for training purposes.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council recently waived the meeting room fee of $4,921. Fuel flowage fees will result in revenues for the City.
The airport receives an average of over a $1 million in grant aid a year from the federal government. The City of South Lake Tahoe, as a condition for accepting federal grant funding for the Lake Tahoe Airport has agreed in writing to certain conditions.
One of those conditions is making the ·airport available for use by government aircraft. The airport Fixed Based Operator, Mountain West Aviation has also waived fees for use of one of their hangars during training as a gesture of support for the U.S. Marines.
