—11 am Carson City Republican Women's Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 16 to hear Elliot Malin, Deputy Political Director of Dean Heller's U.S. Senate campaign, and Matt Rosborg, Regional Field Director for Adam Laxalt for Governor campaign. Their representatives will provide an update on the campaigns along with time for questions and answers.
The meeting will be held at the Carson Nugget with social hour at 11 a.m. and the meeting called to order at 11 a.m. The cost for the luncheon meeting is $20 per person, cash only with reservations required by Friday, Oct. 12.

—The Carson City Chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby meets the first Tuesday of every month to work on issues and solutions to climate change. Give a Dog a Bone Pet Food Drive. All Day. Michael Hohl Motor Company is proud to launch their 5th Annual "Give A Dog A Bone" pet food drive to fill a pickup for the nonprofit organization Pets of the Homeless. They provide pet food and basic emergency veterinary care to the homeless pets in local communities across the United States including Carson City. Last year’s drive collected almost 1,200 pounds of pet food and supplies valued at more than $3,000.
During the month of October bring your donations of dog and cat food to our GM showroom at 3700 S. Carson St. Carson City and help fill the truck. The donations will be delivered to FISH in North Carson City where over 230 local people are asking for pet food each month.

— Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California Native TANF Program launch Winter Coat Drive. The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California Native TANF Program is hosting a winter coat drive Oct. 1 through Nov. 2, 2018. Please donate new or gently used, clean coats, hats, gloves and snow pants. Items will be distributed to families in need on Nov. 8, 2018 at 2310 South Carson St. Suite 1 Carson City or the Douglas County Washoe Tribe of NV & CA Native TANF Program office, 1248 Waterloo Ln, Gardnerville.

— The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others. Depio graduated from Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. He lives in Las Vegas with his family. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E Musser St., Carson City.

— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

— Nevada Artists Association opens Carson City Autumn art show. The Nevada Artists Association opened its annual "Autumn" exhibit will run through Oct. 19, 2018. More than 100 local and regional artists make up the non-profit NAA which operates the gallery located at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center. In addition to the Autumn Show, two association members will be featured, with art work displayed on the coveted back wall of the gallery, artist Cindy Whitaker and photographer Fred Howland will be exhibiting their finest. The Carson City Fire Department (CCFD) would like to announce the start of the Fall 2024 Open Burn, with burning allowed from November 8, 2024, through January 1, 2025, dependent upon permit status and daily weather conditions. To make this a safe endeavor for those involved, the CCFD will require a burn permit.

Secondary school administrators at Carson MS, Eagle Valley MS, and Carson and Pioneer High School in Carson City chose a support called Check and Connect to implement a system of mentorship provided by school staff.

The intervention is a Tier 2 approach in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for schools to address and support attendance and academic success in school.

According to the Secretary of State's Office, 65.63% of registered voters in the capital city came out to cast their ballots, the majority of which utilized early voting (44.69%), followed by mail-in ballots (43.28%), and finally rounding out the last of the voters on election day (12.03%).

Carson Tahoe Health will host a Community Health Fair this Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, 1600 Medical Parkway in Carson City.

NV Energy is reporting power outages Wednesday afternoon in areas around Carson City. As of 2 p.m. there are 165 customers without power. The cause is under investigation. Go here for updates from NV Energy.

While time is up for the polls, which were scheduled to close at 7 p.m., if voters were in line before the cut off they will be allowed to vote. We will update the results as they come in. Carson City polls could take a couple hours to turn in their results.

Please be aware that mail-in ballots are being accepted as long as they were postmarked by election day, today, Nov. 5. This means that we will continue to see more results in the days to come, which is anticipated and expected.

Lyon County Sheriff's Office detectives traveled to the state of Utah where they arrested Robert Richards for the murder of Sara Filiatraut. Since that time, Richards has been in custody in Utah pending extradition to Lyon County.
