Sunday, September 8
— Muscle Powered Sunday bicycle ride. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fremont Elementary School. Meet at Fremont Elementary School in the South parking lot next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Typically, this ride consists of two 10-15 minute loops with varying pace depending on rider level. This is a “no drop” ride so no one will be left behind. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes. — Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds, 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. Come on down and spend some time browsing the many vendors at this months flea market where you will find all kinds of crafts, antiques, collectibles, jewelry, arts, knives and so much more. You never know what you will find, new vendors each month. Admission is $1 for adults and kids under 18 are free.
— Train to Virginia City from Carson City. Event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Prices for the ride range from $25-$55. Rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mill on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route as you meander through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive. This relaxing all-day train excursion is fully narrated with historical facts and anecdotes. Departing from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot, the 24-mile round-trip tour includes a fun 3.5-hour stopover in historic Virginia City, where you can stroll the boardwalks and explore restaurants, shops, saloons, museums, mines and more. — Vintage steam train in Virginia City. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Virginia and Truckee Depot, 166 F Street. — 60th annual International Camel and Ostrich Races in Virginia City. 12 to 2 p.m. at the Virginia City Arena and Fairgrounds, 458 F Street. For 60 years, camels, ostriches and even zebras have come to Virginia City for the annual International Camel & Ostrich Races. This hilarious annual tradition dates back to the 1950s, and features jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering audience in this historic mining town.
— 28th annual Oktoberfest. 12 to 4:30 p.m. at Heritage Park, 1447 Courthouse Alley in Gardnerville. The 28th annual event will be packed with dancing, crafts and plenty of kids games. Lunch will be served from 12 to 4:30 p.m. featuring great german food and specialty brews. There are plenty of activities for the whole family to come on down and enjoy!
— Sausage cooking class at Sierra Chef. 1 to 3 p.m. at 2292 Main St. Suites 3 and 4 in Genoa. Join us for a skills sausage cooking class on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sierra Chef. The cost is $75 per person.
— 3rd annual Friends of Coach Blaver Memorial Fundraiser to benefit the Northern Nevada Alzheimer's Association. 4 to 7 p.m. at the Westside Pour House and Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery parking lot, 110 Telegraph St. The third annual Friends of Coach Blaver Memorial Fundraiser to benefit the Northern Nevada Alzheimer’s Association will take place Sunday, September 8, 2019, from 4 - 7PM, at the Westside Pour House & Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery parking lot, 110 Telegraph St. Carson City, NV 89703.
