A week away: 35th annual Dayton Valley Days happening Sept. 21-22

The countdown continues as we are one week away from Dayton Valley Days, a two-day outdoor street festival where friends and families come together to celebrate in the historic downtown area. Now in its 35th year, the festival will be held in Old Town Dayton on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22 starting at 8:30 a.m. It's the largest to date with over 140 vendors expected to line Pike Street.

Comstock Film Festival happening over three days, Sept. 20-22

The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City and Nevadaland Productions invite you to immerse yourself in the world of cinema and celebrate the art of filmmaking at the Comstock Film Festival.

Teen Hours in the Digitorium

Come visit the Carson City Library and hang out in a space designed with teens in mind! Monday through Friday 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. All teens welcome!

September is Library Card Signup Month at the Carson City Library

The month of September is Library Card Sign Up Month. New patrons who sign up for a card starting now until September 30th get to choose a free book to keep from our book corral. All library cardholders can participate in library card bingo for a prize. Pick up and return your completed bingo boards to the info desk before the end of the month.

United Against Hate Week at the Carson City Library

The Carson City Library is excited to partner with the Attorney General's office to celebrate, and bring awareness to, United Against Hate Week. All week long we will have crafts, storytime, and a photo wall promoting kindness in our communities!

Grown Up and Guppies at the Carson City Aquatic Center

Head over to the Carson City Aquatics Center every Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. for Grown ups and Guppies. Making the water fun for your guppy is the most important step in preparing for swim lessons. This class is designed to acquaint adult and child wild play activities and to teach very basic fundamental skills. The course is parent-driven, under the supervision of an instructor. No registration required. Class is limited to 12 adult/child pairs on a first-come first served basis. For ages 6 months to 4 years.

Storytime Wednesdays at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada

Join in for weekly storytime with an accompanying craft each Wednesday. Recommended for children ages 1 - 6. All included with museum admission.

Art Studio Craft Classes at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada

Drop-in art studio every Wednesday and Friday from 2 - 4 p.m. Creative art studio projects are included with museum admission. All ages welcome. Additional crafts are available for cost.

Lego Club at the Carson City Library

For elementary school aged children. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with Lego education materials. No registration is required. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Bedtime Bears Storytime at the Carson City Library

For kids of all ages: Join us every Wednesday night for stories, songs and crafts designed to help kids wind down at the end of the day. From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Learn to Sketch

In this class you’ll learn about problem-solving through art, as well as how to draw with instructor Kaleb Wyckoff. Whether you can sketch a stick figure or a portrait, this class is for you! All skill levels are welcome. Every class is different and designed to strive for accessibility.

Carson City Dungeon Crawlers

Join the Carson City High School Dungeon & Dragons group every other Wednesday at 2:30PM in the Teen Zone. Learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons and participate in fun campaigns! No registration required.

Meet & Greet for Garden Club in Carson City Sept. 19

Garden Club is hosting an Meet and Greet! Meet the person that will lead the club, along with other kiddos who love gardening. This club is open to kids ages 09-18. The STEM Classroom is open every Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. for funny educational, weekly activities. All included with museum admission. All ages welcome.

Fingerboarding Club at the Carson City Library

Enjoy doing tricks and having fun with miniature skateboards. A table will be set up with a skatepark for an hour of fnigerboarding. Fingerboards will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Open to patrons 14 and up. No registration required. From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Block Party happening Saturday, Sept. 21 celebrating 50th birthday of Carson City’s Bob Boldrick Theater

The expansion of the Carson City Community Center, including the theater now known as the Bob Boldrick Theater, was completed in the fall of 1974.

Art in Our Garden coming to Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City

Featuring more than 30 local artists, food trucks, ice cream and live music, Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City will host "Art in Our Garden" on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Free Young Eagles airplane flights Saturday at Carson City Airport

Edwards Motor Car rides at the Nevada State Railroad Museum

Come down Saturdays and Sundays and take a ride on the historic Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend No. 401 Edwards Motor Car. Built in 1926 by the Edwards Motor Car Company, the 401 hauled passengers between Ajo and Gila Bend, Arizona, from 1926 until 1947. Rides occur approximately every 40 minutes from 10:00am until 2:00pm. Fares are $8 ages 12 and over; $4 ages 4-11 and museum members; and FREE ages 3 and under.

Vinyl Pick-nic - Fourth Sunday Each Month'

Join Will Houk from 95.1FM KNVC for a lazy Sunday as the BAC Exhibition Hall is turned into a listening lounge. Will is bringing a crate of vinyl records and guests are encouraged to bring records of their own that they would like to share for a spin on the provided turntables. Take in the current art exhibition while getting exposed to new music, making new friends, sipping libations, and enjoying eats from a Food Truck.
This is a free all ages event, food and beverages are available for purchase.

Firefighting crews have achieved 92 percent containment on the Davis Fire, according to a Tuesday morning briefing from the U.S. Forest Service. The fire, south of Reno and north of Carson City that began in Washoe Valley Sept. 7, has burned 5,824 acres. The cause remains under investigation.

A Silver Springs man has been identified in a fatal crash that happened last month on US-50A in Lyon County, according to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 1:34PM: The FAA reports a single-engine Globe GC-1B Swift collided with a single-engine Cessna 206 midair near the Minden-Tahoe Airport killing the sole occupant on the Globe. Meanwhile, KRNV reports there were two survivors. Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverly confirms one of the planes involved was Civil Air Patrol.

UPDATE 11AM: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a mid-air collision, which happened at the Minden-Tahoe Airport at 9:47 a.m. One aircraft was able to make a landing at the airport, while the other crashed into a field off Highway 395 near Johnson Lane, said Douglas County spokesman Eric Cachinero.

One fatality is confirmed at this time. The Minden-Tahoe Airport is open, with one runway available. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Board Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William St.
