Carson City School Board to discuss suicide prevention, social work, superintendent pay and more

For the sixth year, Carson City residents lined up Friday night to feast on delicious, savory soup served in handmade clay pottery created by local artisans as part of the Empty Bowls Project to raise money for local families and individuals who often go without daily hot, nutritious cooked meals.

The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by Rita Geil and other award-winning poets and readers for an evening of big-band jazz and poetry on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee. General admission is $5 at the door, and free for age 18 and under.

The Northern Nevada Honor Guard's shuttle bus requires essential repairs and we are seeking the public's help. The members of this unit are all veterans and part of the American Legion High Desert Post 56, Carson City. The unit provides, on average, 50-plus funerals and memorial services each year, is non-profit and all services are provided at no cost.

CARSON CITY — Next week is National Computer Science week, and all schools in the nation are being urged to do an "Hour of Code." Christmas tree permits in the Lake Tahoe Basin are sold out as of Nov. 24, 2017. On Nov. 13, 2,250 permits were issued on a first-come, first-served basis. No additional permits will be authorized at Tahoe this season, however permits are available in the Carson Ranger District.
