Carson City School District reminder: 3-6th grade to return to in-person learning Jan. 19

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce beginning Tuesday, Jan. 19, all third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students may begin attending their zoned school for in-person, on-campus instruction, four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays.

In-Person Learning to be Offered to Carson City 3rd to 6th Graders Beginning in January

During a special session last night, the Carson City School District School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to offer in-person, on-campus instruction for third to sixth graders, four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays. The first official day of this more traditional education model will begin Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. The district previously announced a return to 4-days-per-week, in-person learning for Pre-K to second grade students Oct. 20, 2020.

Carson City School Board to consider return of in-person classes for 3rd to 6th grades

The Carson City School District will hold a special school board meeting Thursday, Dec. 17 in order to discuss reopening schools for third through fifth grade students at the elementary school level, as well as sixth grade students at the middle school level.

The Carson City School District still has space available for early learners under the age of 5. Even though the academic school year is well underway, the pre-kindergarten program is still open for families who qualify under the federal household income guidelines.

The Carson City Library will be hosting a virtual story time for PRE-K (children not yet in elementary school) and families on Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m.

In-Person Learning to be Offered for Carson City Students Pre-K to Second Grade starting Oct. 20

To start the second quarter of school, the Carson City School District is pleased to offer full, in-person, on-campus instruction for students Pre-k to second grade, four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays.

Around 2,000 Carson City students will be distance learning this year due to COVID-19

In July, the Carson City School District decided that a hybrid plan for Carson City students was the safest route to keep down the number of COVID-19 cases, allowing children to attend only two days a week and distance learn three days a week.

Today, Tuesday Aug. 11, the Carson City School Board will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center. Among the items for discussion includes pass/fail data for the 4th quarter of the 2019/2020 school year, an informational update on staff safety protocols on returning to school, breakfast in the classroom and more.

School districts in Northern Nevada region establish school reopening plans, safety models

School districts in the Northern Nevada area are putting plans in place for students to safely return to the 2020-21 school year.

A new directive by the state of Nevada requires school districts to submit three reopening plans for the upcoming school year. The three plans include one for complete in-person instruction, one for hybrid instruction and one for all-distance learning.

The Carson City School Board will be voting on the final plan for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year and the effect COVID-19 has had on it at the board meeting this Tuesday, July 28, at 6 p.m.

The meeting, which will take place in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street, will decide on how the reopening of the new school year will go in Carson City Schools.

Carson High School Announces Graduation Ceremony Plan for Class of 2020

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Carson High School’s graduation ceremony plan for the Class of 2020.

Carson High School will hold a drive-through ceremony Saturday, June 6, with varying times throughout the day where graduating seniors and their families will stay in their single vehicle until it's time for the graduate to exit their car, have their name announced on the loudspeaker as they walk across a stage erected on the northwest lawn (near the blue and white concrete ‘CHS’ sign), collect their diploma, have their picture taken, return to their vehicle and then proceed to the exit.

The Carson City Library will host a community read of My First Summer in the Sierra by John Muir for Capital City Reads, Carson City Library’s annual city-wide book club.

Capital City Reads takes place every April as a celebration of National Library Week, bringing people together through reading and discussion.

This year’s program starts with National Library Week on April 19 and will run through May 16.

Activities include a discussion and documentary viewing regarding the high cost of pharmaceutical drugs, plus Read Across America storytime for young children at the Carson City Library, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.
