Flavors of India brings North Indian cuisine to Carson City at Saturday grand opening
Flavors of India’s grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration is taking place Saturday at noon. City officials and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce will be bringing the giant ribbon and scissors to kick off the restaurant's first day of business.
Guests may sample a complimentary vegetarian or non-vegetarian appetizer, along with tea and a soft drink from noon to 1 p.m. The bar will be selling beer and wine for the occasion as well. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Flavors of India will offer its first all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for $9.99.
Beginning Monday, Flavors of India will be fully open for business. While operating seven days a week, an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner hours will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a complete dinner menu and full-service bar.
Specializing in traditional North Indian cuisine the restaurant is at 1105 South Carson Street, the previous home of Tahoe Ridge Winery and Bistro, near the Carson Mall.
The owners Manpreet Kaur and her mother, Dolly, came to Northern Nevada from San Jose, Calif.
“We are very excited. We can’t wait to meet everyone in Carson City,” said Dolly Kaur as she juggled a phone call and an inquiry from an electrician on Friday.
In addition to offering fine dining, a lunch buffet, full-service bar and eventually banquet facilities for large gatherings, the mother-daughter team have plans in the works to fully utilize the 10,000-square-foot restaurant.
Flavors of India will offer reserved space for special occasions and more intimate dining in the evenings. Between the main dining area, the atrium and the bar, Flavors of India will feature seating for about 80 to 100 patrons.
Kaur said many of the sauces and gravies will burst with spices and feature turmeric, ginger, garlic and onions. Spicy doesn't necessarily mean hot in the context of Indian food, and each freshly prepared dish can be ordered as mild, medium, or spicy heat.
Given the restaurant's size, Manpreet said her focus is on creating a dining experience where patrons feel comfortable and at home.
“People have been going to Reno and Lake Tahoe to enjoy authentic Indian food. Now we’re bringing it to Carson City,” she said.
