Carson City Library aims for 90,000 reader minutes in Winter Read-A-Thon challenge
The Carson City Library will participate in the inaugural nationwide Winter Reading Challenge from Dec. 22, 2017 through Jan. 5, 2018. We challenge you to read (or listen) to books for one hour a day to help us win $10,000. Our goal is for Carson City to read 90,000 minutes over a two-week span, that’s a mere hour a day each.
Billionaire investor and Shark Tank personality, Mark Cuban has announced his sponsorship of the inaugural Winter Reading Challenge and “has challenged close to 100 libraries all over the country and South Korea, to meet a collective goal of reading at least 1.3 million minutes and 55,000 books during the month of January.”
If this goal is met, Cuban will donate $25,000 to First Book, a nonprofit organization that provides new books and learning materials to children in need. Cuban will also give $10,000 to top-performing libraries to use for their community programs. You may pick up your paper Reading Log at a Pop-Up Event or download and print a copy from our website. For every hour you spend reading (or listening) to books, list the time and title on your paper Reading Log.
