Golf tournament, fundraisers, railbike tours and more highlight weekend events around Carson City
Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament in remembrance of Mayor Bob Crowell will be held at Silver Oak Ranch Golf Course on Saturday. Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. Combined with live music and several dinner specials, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

Friday, October 23
— Celebrate the Fall Season on the Comstock with a ride on the Pumpkin Patch Train (all day). Take advantage of the crisp fall air and the gorgeous high desert scenery with a ride on the Virginia Truckee Railroad’s Pumpkin Patch Steam train. Traveling round trip from Virginia City, Nevada, The Pumpkin Patch train will be powered by Steam Engine #29, featuring a stop at the Gold Hill Depot Pumpkin Patch. Pick out your favorite gourd for carving or for pie making and create a lasting memory for your entire family.
— Hauntober Returns to Virginia City (all day). Virginia City will be packed with month-long events through October in the spirit of Halloween. As one of the most haunted destinations in the country, Virginia City is the perfect place to get spooked this October. Celebrate the supernatural and all things unexpected with an entire month of events including the outhouse races, ghost tours, safe trick-or-treating, a goblin parade and a family fun Thomas the and Friends excursion on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad.
— Carson River Canyon Railbike Tours. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Visit Carson City, in partnership with the V&T Railway Commission, have announced an all-new attraction unlike any other in northern Nevada. Railbikes will run Tuesday-Sunday, four times a day 10 a.m., noon, 2p.m. and 4 p.m. Excursions are $45 per person. Tickets may be purchased online at vtrailway.com.
— Youth conservation group River Wranglers to hose event aimed at protecting cottonwoods. 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Morgan Mill River Access Park along the Carson River. Carson City, Dayton area youth conservation organization River Wranglers will meet Friday, October 23, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for a work and education event designed to help protect cottonwoods from beaver damage.
— RSVP's Annual Volunteer Recognition Event. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mills Park. RSVP will honor volunteers by hosting a drive-thru bar-b-que lunch recognition event and exciting raffle. The event will be held on Friday, October 23rd, 11am – 1pm, at Mills Park in Carson City, located at 1111 E. William Street. Dickey’s Barbeque Pit will provide a sack lunch, complete with a pulled pork sandwich, chips, and a cookie for dessert. As you make your way through the park, you will be able to pick up your lunch near the Oxby Loop. All volunteers and staff will be wearing masks.
— Carson City's Nevada Art Alliance 'Autumn Show' features local artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell. All the work in these shows is from Nevada Artist Association members. These shows are open to the public through October 23.
— Keith Alan Barnett at Bella Vita Bistro. 5 p.m. at 1304 S. Stewart St. KAB is back to entertain you with his renditions of your favorite country and rock acoustic songs along with a few originals. Bella Vita Bistro has the best pastrami sandwich (Keith loves it) and tons of other great selections for your Friday night dinner out. Ask Courtney to make you one of her signature cocktails while you enjoy the music.
— Flavorful Friday at Bank Saloon. 5 to 9 p.m. at 418 S. Carson St. Kick off the weekend right with handcrafted cocktails and the flavorful cuisine of Hot Rodz Food Truck.
— Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop. 6 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. Open Mic Night has returned to A to Zen Gift Shop in Carson City! Come join us for a live music event featuring several great artists. Masks and social distancing procedures will be in place.
— Live Music and Dinner at Living the Good Life. 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Join us as we will be hosting live music and dinner specials Friday and Saturday at Living the Good Life! Please contact us for reservations before 5 p.m.
— Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.
Saturday, October 24
— Carson High School student to work on C Hill as part of Eagle Scout project (all day). A Carson High School senior will be working on transforming C Hill back to its original design this Saturday as part of an Eagle Scout project. Michael Service, 17, of Carson City, will lead an effort Saturday to clean up the "C" on C Hill where "20" was constructed on the hillside this spring. The intent is to reorganize the painted rocks back to their original position.

The Nevada Day Golf Tournament, scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 24, is quickly selling out, but there are a few spaces left to enjoy the first event of its kind in over a decade. Saturday is the first golf tournament, which is dedicated in honor of Mayor Bob Crowell this year.
— Partnership Carson City hosts Drug Round-Up. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at four locations in Carson City. Partnership Carson City, inspiring a healthy community through education and prevention, is raising awareness around the impacts of keeping unused and expired prescription drugs in your household. It will be held at the following locations: Save Mart Supermarkets, located at 3620 N. Carson and 4348 S. Carson Streets, Smith’s Food & Drug Store, at 559 E. William St., FoodMaxx, at 3325 Highway 50 East.
— Benson's Feed hosting 4 Paws 4-H Dog Club Fundraiser. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2750 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Our youth group, 4 PAWS 4-H Dog Club, is selling homemade, natural dog biscuits in sizes large, medium, and small. All proceeds go to 4-Paws Dog Club of Carson City.
— Nevada State Museum Family Fun Saturday to be featured as Facebook Live event. 10 a.m. visit the link above for more information. To kick off our Dia de los Muertos celebration this year I will lead a craft making Facebook Live event at 10 a.m. Saturday as part of the Nevada State Museum Family Fun Saturday. We will be making tissue paper flowers that are used to decorate Dia de los Muertos Altars.
— Oktoberfest at Carson Valley Golf Course. 10 a.m. at 1027 Riverview Drive in Gardnerville. The Carson Valley Golf Course will host a Oktoberfest event for Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. Come join us for a four-player scramble. $40 per person.
— Partnership Douglas County, Sheriff's Office hours prescription drug round-up. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 1038 Buckeye Road in Minden. The Prescription Drug Round-Up was created in 2009 to encourage the public to properly dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications with the goal of preventing pill abuse and theft.
— Comstock Art Celebration. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Virginia City Gallery of the West, 334 South B Street. Meet and greet our local Comstock artists exhibiting and demonstrating their original art pieces. Featuring Plein Air Art, Weaving, Pottery & more.
— Fall Poetry in the Park. 11:30 a.m. at Riverview Park in Carson City. Do you enjoy writing poetry? Are you inspired by the fall? If so, be sure to join us for our "Fall Poetry in a Park" event. We will be writing and sharing fall inspired poetry! Be sure to bring your own paper/journal and pen/pencil! You are welcome to bring poems that you have already written to share if you would like!

King St. The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell. NAA is the largest Fine Arts Gallery in the Carson-Tahoe area featuring work from over 140 Northern Nevada artists, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, gourds, jewelry, textile art, glass, pottery, prints, cards and more.
— Coed Youth Lacrosse TryLax Clinic coming to Carson Valley. 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Lampe Park, 1324 Waterloo Ln. in Gardnerville. Youth girls and boys lacrosse is coming to the Carson Valley! In partnership with both the High Sierra Lacrosse Foundation and the High Sierra Lacrosse League, Douglas Girls Lacrosse Club is hosting a free youth TryLax lacrosse clinic on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 1:00 - 2:30PM at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 37th season with a virtual community music and dance project celebrating Carson City history, the “Hank Monk Schottische” virtual performance project. Instrumental musicians and dancers of all ages are invited to participate.
