We wanted to introduce you to one of our many artists featured at the Nevada Artists Association in Carson City, one of the largest respected fine arts gallery in Carson City, Lake Tahoe region.

Kristy Dial, is a professional gourd artist and teacher with 25 years of experience. She is currently the president of the Nevada Gourd Society and is an AGS Certified Judge.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The November Gobble Wine Walk kicks off in downtown Carson City followed by a new “Paths and Pedals” bike tour. Sierra Lutheran High School is also hosting a Christmas craft fair on Saturday. Combined with live music and virtual events, there’s plenty of activity happening in the state capital! Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell. 

All the work in these shows is from Nevada Artist Association members. These shows are open to the public through October 23rd.

Artemisia Floral and Vintage is Carson City's newest — and only — pop up vintage shop, located across from the Tap Shack on Rice Street.

Artists from Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville will be featured at the 25th annual Northern Nevada Artisan Show and Sale this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 in Reno.

The event’s 25th anniversary will be dedicated to the memory of Jim McCormick, UNR Art Department chair, artist, curator and one of the founders of the show. Admission is free.

The 2019 Silver State Art Festival is the third annual gathering in Carson City of award-winning gourd artists, painters, photographers, wood, glass and metal artists and from all over the Southwest. The festival runs Sept. 13-15 at Fuji Exhibit Hall, Park & Pavilion in Carson City.

Members of the Nevada Gourd Society have a wonderful display of gourd art in the Carson City Library. The local group is known as the Great Basin Gourd Patch meet monthly in the Johnson Lane area to share and learn techniques used on gourds. The exhibit in the library will be on display until the end of August. You don’t want to miss all this art!

The 16th Annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music and Art Festival kicks off Friday at Bliss Mansion, 608 Elizabeth Street from 4 to 6 p.m., and continues that evening at the Governor’s Mansion, directly across Mountain Street. The free event includes live music, art, food, and tours of the Bliss Mansion.

This Saturday, the Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City will host its 16th annual “Greenhouse Garden Art Fest” which acts a platform for artists to show and sell their work, musicians to serenade the community, all the while amongst the backdrop of the Greenhouse in full bloom.

I like ‘Delicata’ winter squash. With my most recent purchase, I wondered if I saved seeds, would they produce true ‘Delicata’ squash next fall or some cross-bred anomaly.

Girls Scouts of all ages gathered at the Carson City Senior Center Friday night to create fall decorations for Meals on Wheels recipients.

Among the happenings, there’s a bevy of art events including gourd classes that kick off the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, music and comedy venues, a flu presentation, a morning hike and more to round out the the day.

Reno Open Studios is an opportunity to visit the artist’s studios and see them at work. You will learn what inspires them, witness their techniques, and be stimulated by their passion for the creative process. The 2018 Silver State Art Festival, hosted by the Nevada Gourd Society, is a gathering in Carson City of gourd artists, basket makers, wood artists, photographers and painters from all over the Southwest.

The Nevada Artists Association is presenting “Spring Has Sprung,” a new show of works by member artists at its gallery at 449 King Street in Carson City. The show will run from April 2 to May 4 at the spacious, recently refurbished gallery, adjacent to the Brewery Arts Center complex.

August 26th St. Mary's Art Center will host our Summer Art Reception, featuring beautiful works by amazing artists and artisans. What to do on a Wednesday? If you travel down this list, you’ll find the new Wheeled Food Wednesdays at the Brewery Arts Center featuring a line-up of local food trucks and family fun. Jazz and Beyond brings you a free outdoor concert with Lake Effect in the Comma Coffee Courtyard. Chris Bayer transforms into Major Ormsby at Dangberg Home Historic Ranch’s Chautauqua tonight. Get on the Highway to the Danger Zone and it will take you to Top Gun on the big screen at Galaxy Theaters.

An electric month of local vibes and community events arrives Friday as the 14th annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival begins at the historic Bliss Mansion, launching an 18-day, jam-packed schedule featuring original jazz music and various art and film gatherings at multiple venues around the capital city.

On September 22, 23 and 24 we are offering 19 gourd classes for a hands-on learning experience. Gourds are a wonderful canvas for painting, wood burning, carving and weaving. Our experienced teachers will guide and teach students techniques used to work with the dyes, tools and of course gourds.

Each person will design and decorate a gourd of their choice with a wood burner and art supplies. This class will include the history of gourds in society and develop skills using a wood burner (pyrography) safely. Ages 9 and up. Students need to be conscientious about burners.
