Did you see it? Object flies across sky, observed by people in Carson City, Lyon County

A mysterious light that streaked across the night sky Saturday, visible as far away as Nevada and Arizona, was a Trident missile test-fired by the Navy, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

KOLO reports it has spoken with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and they said the light in the sky was confirmed through the John Wayne Airport tower to be a Naval test fire off the coast. No further details.

A handful of people have contacted Carson City and Lyon County dispatch saying they observed something fly overhead in the skies tonight. Carson City dispatch said they received one call, and Lyon County dispatch also reportedly were contacted by people asking about the object in the sky at around 6 tonight.

Sex offender status sweep makes 96 contacts in Carson City, Lyon and Douglas County

A joint law enforcement operation to check on the status of sex offenders in Carson City, Lyon and Douglas counties was conducted the last week of October that resulted in 96 offender personal contacts and a total of 122 community personal contacts, authorities said.

Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man jailed on trespass, property destruction

A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and destruction of property after allegedly breaking in the door of an apartment in the 2000 block of West College Parkway, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers arrest dangerous fugitive near Fernley

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Colorado fugitive Tuesday east of Fernley who was wanted on felony charges, considered armed and dangerous and had made threats to authorities, an NHP Trooper said.

An attempt to locate the suspect, Eldon Lloyd Dick, 55 of Egnar, Colo near Grand Junction was advised statewide.
He had an active felony warrant out of the San Miguel County Court for charges including: first degree felony criminal trespass, child abuse, prohibited use of a weapon, harassment and criminal mischief, said NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber.

NNDA announces expansion of New Millennium steel facility in Fallon

New Millennium Building Solutions is expanding its Northern Nevada operations in Fallon, the Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday. New Millennium recently began a two phase expansion at its current facility and will hire up to 17 additional employees over the next six months.

Residents urged to report suspicious activity following Dayton Valley car break-ins

On the night of Sept. 25-26, 10 cars on the Greyhawk corrider in the Dayton Valley Country Club were rifled through by several young men. The thieves walked along the corridor testing the doors of cars parked in drive-ways. If unlocked, the cars were rifled for valuables. Items stolen were small electronics, like GPS systems, cash, or other items.

Free health clinic this weekend in Yerington and Oct. 16-18 in Carson City

Remote Area Medical, an organization dedicated to providing free, quality health care services, will host free pop-up clinics during the next two weekends for adults and children in Lyon County and Carson City.

There are no eligibility requirements and identification isn't necessary. Services are provided on a first come basis. The first pop-up clinic will be this weekend in Yerington, Oct. 9-11, and the second will be in Carson City the following weekend, Oct. 16-18.

Lyon County sheriff's investigator seek identity of pair who robbed Fernley liquor store

Lyon County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking for two juveniles who robbed a Fernley liquor store at gunpoint late Sunday night.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. the two armed male juveniles entered Sierra Discount Liquor store located on Highway 95A. The business was robbed of an unknown amount of cash. The two suspects appeared to be white males in their mid-teens and were last seen wearing t-shirts, blue jeans, and black bandanas.

A Carson City woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday on Highway 50 that resulted in an arrest when the suspected DUI driver was going the wrong way, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Carson City sheriff’s weekend arrest log: Jail inmate faces felony assault, drug charges

A 24-year-old inmate in the Carson City Jail faces a felony charge of battery by a prisoner after allegedly punching another inmate in the face on Sunday, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Jacob Martin Madden was jailed earlier Sunday on a felony drug charge after officers found 1.8 grams of heroin during a traffic stop for speeding. He was originally stopped for going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone at Carson and Robinson streets. A K9 drug dog, Ivo, did an exterior sniff of the vehicle, which led to a positive alert and subsequent search.

After a lot of preparatory work, two new programs have started or should start soon to help keep people from going to jail or even returning to jail.

The Forensic Assessment Safety Triage Team officially began last week with a team going to the Lyon County Jail and asking if inmates arrested on low-level charges wished any mental health services or substance abuse services.

Thursday procession for Carson City sheriff's deputy to move through North Carson Street

A funeral procession through Carson City for fallen Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell will be Thursday, 9 a.m. beginning at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Musser Street and will move along North Carson Street on its way to services in Reno.

The procession will be led by a fire truck that will carry Howell’s casket past the Nevada State Capitol and proceed north along Carson Street. It will meet up with a larger procession of law officers that will be staged at North Carson Street and College Parkway.
