Lyon County Republican Central Committee meeting

The Lyon County Republican Central Committee (LCRCC) will hold its next meeting on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Fernley High School Library, 1300 Highway 95A, Fernley. The meeting will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend and learn more about grassroots politics and meet with Republican officials.

A report on the April 25 meeting on The Vintage At Kings Canyon

The project called The Vintage At Kings Canyon was presented by the managers in an open meeting at the Fritsch School on April 7th to a crowd estimated at 250-400 people.

On April 25 it was again the topic of another public meeting at the school. This time the meeting was called by the neighbors, and drew over 200 highly interested people, along with the mayor, two candidates for mayor, a supervisor, a candidate for supervisor, a reporter, a retired reporter, and other retired reporter also a candidate for supervisor.

Two Care Flight ambulances sent to Dayton crash at Highway 50 and Six Mile Canyon Road

UPDATE 10:30AM: From Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Duncan Dauber: Two people involved in a crash at Highway 50 and Six Mile Canyon Road near Dayton this morning were flown by Care Flight and, at this time, have non-life threatening injuries.

The injured motorists are an adult female from Silver Springs driving a red Ford Explorer and an adult male, also from Silver Springs, driving silver Ford F150 truck.

Two helicopters landed at Fort Churchill Road to take the two injured motorists to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

UPDATE: At least two people were flown by two Care Flight helicopters this morning following a vehicle crash at Highway 50 and Six Mile Canyon near Dayton.

Carson City Search and Rescue find families stuck in canyon, one flown by Care Flight

Two SUVs that became stuck in the mud overnight in El Dorado Canyon southeast of Carson City were found Monday morning. One person was flown by Care Flight for an injury, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue official said.

Emergency crews, Care Flight called to crash on Highway 50 near Mound House

UPDATE 5:30PM MONDAY: Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday that involved a black Ford Excursion and a black Honda Civic, according the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber reports the driver of the Honda, from Silver Springs, was injured after the vehicle rolled over and he was pinned briefly inside. He was flown by Care Flight with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A juvenile passenger in the Honda had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

The Honda rear-ended the Ford in the eastbound lane at Highway 50 near Affonso Drive, said Trooper Dauber. The driver of the Ford Excursion, from Yerington, was not injured.

Lyon County and Carson City rescue crews, the Nevada Highway Patrol and Care Flight were called to a crash Sunday off of Highway 50 in Mound House at Affonso Drive near the Shell station.

The crash was reported to NHP at 4:54 p.m. with dispatch advising that at least two vehicles were involved.

National Weather Service: Line of strong thunderstorms crossing Carson City and Dayton

The National Weather Service in Reno was tracking a series of strong thunderstorms that began at around 5 p.m. that extend from Fernley to Dayton with lighting strikes and rain already arriving in Carson City.

Motorcycle rider in Dayton taken by Care Flight after crash into school bus

A motorcycle rider was flown by Care Flight after it crashed into a school bus Friday afternoon in Dayton. The crash happened near the intersection of Fortune and Monte Cristo. The was reported to be at least one student on the bus and they were not injured, according to scanner reports.

Lyon County authorities and FBI investigate shooting death of Mason Valley mail carrier

UPDATE: Lyon County sheriff's spokesman Michael Carlson said a U.S. Postal Service delivery worker who was killed on the job in northern Nevada was delivering mail to her own home, and her husband first reported her shooting death as an accident, according to KTVN. The husband of Johnie Nicole Shadden was questioned but not arrested after Shadden was pronounced dead outside the house about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday near Yerington.

Commerce and rail center in Lyon, Churchill counties on track for development

A new and long awaited 2,000-acre rail center and industrial park development is going forward in Lyon and Churchill counties, officials tied to the project announced Thursday.

The Gateway Commerce Center project will be built near Hazen, Nev. on U.S. Highway 50 Alternate, according to a joint announcement by Northern Nevada Development Authority, Gateway Commerce Center LLC and Watco Companies, LLC.

UPDATE 11:15AM: Carson City is experiencing minor, localized flooding, according to the city's Facebook page. Sandbags are available at Public Works Corporate Yard on Butti Way. Call 887-2355 if you need more information. As of 11:15 there were 14 NV Energy outages in Carson City with 253 customers without power. Douglas County has 16 outages with 165 customers without power. There is one outage in Lyon County with one customer without power.
