Lyon County firefighters gain control of tire fire in Silver Springs

UPDATE 850AM: The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District reports the tire fire off Orange Street in east Sliver Springs has been contained and extinguished.

The Fire District estimates that firefighters will be on scene mopping up the fire until around noon today, and then the fire will be in patrol status for 24 hours, said Rob Loveberg, Lyon County community development director and emergency management coordinator.

Carson City sheriff's log: Man jailed on felony warrants found with stolen bicycle

A Carson City man arrested Saturday on felony warrant charges from another county, also faces a charge of possession of stolen property after he was found on a mountain bike stolen earlier from a Divot Road home, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

NV Energy: More than 2,400 without power in Dayton area

UPDATE: As of 10:03 p.m. NV Energy reports 1,168 customers were without power in Lyon County, in three outage areas around Dayton. The cause of the outage remains under investigation. Power should be fully restored by 12:45 a.m.

More than 2,400 NV Energy customers in the Dayton area are without power on this Wednesday night. The outage struck the area just after 8 p.m.

Gas leak in Dayton forces some evacuations

A gas leak late Wednesday morning forced the evacuation of some homes and businesses in the area of Occidental and Riverboat in the Dayton area.

The incident happened at around 11:50 a.m. when a piece of construction equipment cut a 2-inch high pressure gas line at the intersection of Occidental and Riverboat.

Sex offender sweep in Carson City results in 226 compliance checks, two arrests

Law enforcement officers from around the region participated in a sex offender sweep late last week known as Operation Vigilance, a multi-agency collaborative effort to verify sex offender registration compliance around Carson City.

The joint effort resulted in 226 sex offender compliance checks. As a result of Operation Vigilance, 2 supervised offenders were arrested for violating their parole or probation terms and conditions, said Lt. Jorge Pierrott of Nevada Parole and Probation Northern Command in Carson City.

Carson City sheriff's detectives seek public help in finding teen runaway

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a 15-year-old runaway.

Jamie Hardiman ran away from her residence in Carson City on July 17. Jamie had run away a few days prior and was found in Reno. Jamie returned home and ran away the same night. Jamie left a note that stated that she ran away and would not return.

Lyon County Sheriff's Office seeks suspect in battery at 'Night in the Country' event

Carson City sheriff’s log: Deputies make drug and warrant arrests

A Carson City man was arrested Friday, 12:56 a.m. on felony charges of possession of a controlled substances and possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription after officers discovered the man had been in possession of seven Oxycodone pills, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Dayton burglary suspect shoots self with stolen gun while watching firearm safety video

Two people were arrested in connection with a rash of burglaries in the Dayton area during the past month with a break in the case discovered early this week when one of the suspects accidentally shot himself with a gun he allegedly stole, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Over the past month the Lyon County Sheriff's Office has been investigating approximately 18 Dayton residential burglaries in the Riverboat Road, River Park, and Sutro neighborhoods.

NV Energy says underground cable blamed for Thursday's Dayton area power outage

An underground cable that affected the electrical distribution system is what caused Thursday's power outage in Lyon County that affected 2,475 Dayton area customers, a NV Energy spokeswoman said.

"It was a bad underground cable which is what made it difficult to get to unlike an outage from a power line where it can be reached easily," said Faye Andersen, spokeswoman for NV Energy.

Lyon County dispatch has reported a significant power outage in the Dayton area and law enforcement and fire resources are busy with response to alarm calls and traffic control, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page.

NNDA regional delegation, Carson City manager to join Sandoval on European trade mission

Northern Nevada Development Authority’s Executive Director, Robert Hooper, is set to join Gov. Brian Sandoval, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and a sub delegation from the Sierra region, including Carson City manager Nick Marano, on an upcoming trade mission to England, Ireland, Germany and Poland.

Silver Springs Airport Dedication

Silver Springs, NV – Silver Springs Airport was the recipient of a $700,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration and sponsored by Lyon County. With these funds, the Silver Springs airport was able to increase the size of the taxiway and rehabilitate the runway.

These two improvements are vital to the overall master plan to the airport and further enables economic growth and aviation needs to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.

Arrest made in Silver Springs fire that destroyed home

A home in Silver Springs was destroyed by fire Wednesday and one person is in custody. Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested Susan McInnes in Silver Springs on Wednesday for first degree arson. Her bail is set at $40,000.

According to Central Lyon County Fire District Battalion Chief Mark Darragh, units responded to the fire called into dispatch at 3:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Fifth Street.

Flash Flood Warning goes up for Carson City, and portions of Douglas and Lyon counties

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Eastern Carson City, West Central Lyon County and Northwestern Douglas County until 2:15 p.m.

Lightning ruled out as cause of fire that destroyed Silver Springs home

A home in Silver Springs was destroyed by fire Wednesday. According to Central Lyon County Fire District Battalion Chief Mark Darragh, units responded to the fire called into dispatch at 3:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Fifth Street.

The fire was fully involved by the time engines arrived, with 90 percent of the 1,500-square-foot structure already consumed. The fire was extinguished without incident and there were no injuries, said Darragh.

UPDATE 6:10PM: A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for South Central Washoe County, Northwestern Lyon County and Storey County until 9 p.m. At 5:58 PM Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain across the area. A flash Flood is expected within the areas.

Another series of strong thunderstorms have developed south of Carson City along the Eastern Sierra and Highway 395 corridor this afternoon and appear to be pushing northward, bringing heavy rain and the potential for flooding, a National Weather Service forecaster said.
