Lyon deputy's fundraising efforts raises $11,250 for family of fallen Carson City officer
A Go Fund Me page established by a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputy raised $11,250 for the family of Carson City deputy Carl Howell who died in the line of duty Aug. 15, 2015 responding to a domestic violence call at an east Carson City home.
The page was created by Deputy Nick Casaverde who works in the detention division. The Go Fund Me campaign has officially closed.
According to Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil, Casaverde independently started the site that raised $11,250 in six days. One hundred percent of the money will go into an account for Howell’s family via the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
Howell is survived by his wife, Rachel, and four children, ages 7 to 12. The family lives in Lyon County.
“This is a great community that deeply cares about its law enforcement and I am extremely blessed to be a part of it,” said McNeil.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office personnel was among the dozens of law enforcement agencies represented at the Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015 funeral for Howell. McNeil notes Lyon County Sheriff’s Office sent 10 vehicles to the funeral motorcade, along with our Honor Guard and approximately 25 uniformed deputies and staff.
Of the Go Fund Me fundraising effort, Casaverde writes:
Today we decided to end the campaign and stop accepting donations. We raised an amazing total of $11,250! I cannot thank you enough for your support, I'm sure deputy Howell is smiling down on us and is grateful his community is taking good care of his family. There are several other donations in the area that are still excepting contributions and I encourage you to continue your support.
It seems like recently there has been so much negative news in the media regarding law enforcement and it means the world to us to see so much love and support from our community. I'm truly grateful to call northern Nevada my home. RIP Howell we'll take the watch from here while you cover us from up there and know your family will be taken care of.
