Emergency crews respond to accident in westbound lane Highway 50 East
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 04/17/2015 - 9:02amUPDATE 10:46AM: NHP Trooper Karen Garretson reports the following: A White Ford Explorer was traveling westbound Highway 50 with reports that it was driving recklessly.
The Ford Explorer struck three mile marker posts on the right shoulder before striking an unoccupied truck and trailer combo that was parked on the side of the road.
The impact pushed the truck and trailer into the travel lane. The driver of the Ford Explorer has non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Carson Tahoe Hospital. Controlled substances may be a factor in the crash.

Carson City sheriff's weekend arrest log: Deputies make DUI and domestic battery arrests
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/13/2015 - 8:37amA 39-year-old Carson City man, Timothy Allen Webb, was arrested Saturday, 11:36 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on a felony drug court warrant, issued April 6, 2015 out of Carson City. A 30-year-old man, Randall Jonathan Saucedo, was also arrested at the location on a felony warrant out of state parole and probation. Both men are being held without bail pending hearings, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Douglas, Lyon authorities use high intensity enforcement in April to target distracted drivers

This enforcement detail is partially paid for by a grant from the State of Nevada, Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Fugitive from justice nabbed early Monday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/06/2015 - 8:31amA 54-year-old man was arrested Monday, 12:29 a.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of Oregon, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Randall Lee Willis, a 56-year-old barber from Arkansas, had been wanted since April 30, 2002 on the criminal warrant. He is in the Carson City Jail on $50,000 bail awaiting extradition to Oregon.

One adult male and three juveniles have been identified in connection with all of these.

Three Dayton women jailed after large quantity of cocaine, marijuana discovered
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 03/29/2015 - 3:28pmThree Dayton women were arrested Sunday on felony drug charges after a search warrant was issued to search a home on Shady Grove, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office. Among the drugs found was approximately 302 grams or 3/4-pound of cocaine, nearly 2 pounds of marijuana as well as packing material to sell and distribute the drugs.

NHP: Silver Springs woman dies in head-on crash south of Fernley
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/23/2015 - 1:13pmA 19-year-old Silver Springs woman died in a head-on crash Sunday on Highway 50A south of Fernley, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Three others were also injured.
NHP confirms Isis Aline Fetty died after a Saturn Sedan crossed over the center line and struck the Mercedes she was driving. The accident happened around noon Sunday, near Lyon County mile marker 11 approximately 1 mile south of the Fernley High School.

With our temperatures this weekend to reach into the 70 degree range, we are all getting the fishing bug. Renee and I set out on another fishing adventure through Alpine County last weekend. This report will reflect on our adventures.
SILVER LAKE:
The lake is completely thawed out, and many anglers have been fishing along the shore. The Kit Carson Resort is scheduled to open mid April this year. Anglers have been using Kastmaster lures and power bait. A few fish were caught in the 8 to 13 inch range.
Lyon County Sheriff's Office: Five jailed in meth bust at Silver Springs 'flop house'
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 03/10/2015 - 2:57pmFive people were arrested Monday in Silver Springs following a four-month investigation by the Narcotics Division of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office into methamphetamine sales in the Silver Springs area, authorities said.
A search warrant was executed at 2905 Toiyabe Street in Silver Springs. The home was being used to sell methamphetamine, and acted as a “flop house” for local drug users and dealers, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
Plane crash near Dayton High School sends two to the hospital

The crash happened at around 4 p.m. when reports came into dispatch that a plane crashed while it was trying to land at Dayton Valley Airpark.
State demographer releases Nevada population estimates

The state gained an estimated 42,334 persons from July 2013 to July 2014, an estimated increase of 1.5 percent, about equivalent to the increase of 1.8 percent the prior year. This is higher than the 2011 to 2012 period when the state grew by 1.0 percent.

Two flown by Care Flight in accident on Highway 50 in Dayton
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 02/27/2015 - 7:44pmTwo people were flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno following an accident tonight on Highway 50 near Second Avenue in Dayton, according to Nevada Highway Patrol dispatch.
The accident was reported at 5:34 p.m. The two flown by Care Flight have non-life threatening injuries, according to NHP dispatch.
Traffic delays were experienced around the accident scene. NHP and Lyon County re-directed traffic. Officers have cleared the scene as of 7:40 p.m., according to dispatch.

Agencies respond Sunday afternoon to fire at Moundhouse industrial facility

No injuries were reported. Firefighters contained the fire and began mop up early this evening, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page.

Storey County Fire Protection District Receives ISO Public Protection Classification Rating

In addition, the fire district has received a rating of 3 for the fire station at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRI), which was previously rated as a 10.
Hazmat called to Minden warehouse for leaking acid

This incident has been determined to not be of environmental concern. No injuries were reported during this incident. The property will be turned over to the property manager and a contracted hazardous material clean-up crew at approximately 5 pm tonight.

Torres out in Lyon County sheriff's reorganization

That reorganization includes the departure of former undersheriff Albert Torres effective last Wednesday, although neither Torres nor McNeil characterized Torres' departure as a firing.
