Chili cooks compete in Carson City on behalf of veterans

Two dozen competitive chili cooks armed with ladels and their top-secret recipes stormed the front lawn of Glen Eagles Restaurant Saturday morning to tempt the palates of guests attending the annual High Sierra and Nevada Capitol Regional Chili Cook Off.

Wildfires reported in Dayton, Silver Springs areas

UPDATE 8:08PM: According to the Lyon County Facebook page, the Fort Churchill Fire near Dayton is 200 acres with 95 percent containment. No structures threatened or damaged. Power may be disrupted in the area.

Wildfires have been reported this evening in the Dayton and Silver Springs/Stagecoach areas, with Carson City Fire Department being asked to help as part of a mutual aid effort, according to dispatch.

Overgrown, dry vegetation and winds fuel wildfires around Northern Nevada

Multiple fires are burning around the Northern Nevada region, with one 15-acre fire east of Carson City that started Tuesday night. The Sedge Fire was located in the Brunswick Canyon area. No homes or structures were threatened.

Pet owners urged to keep their pooches inside during Carson City fireworks show

While thousands will gather Tuesday night at Mills Park in Carson City to watch the 4th of July fireworks display, the Nevada Humane Society urges pet owners to keep their furry friends away from the thunderous booms and flashing sparks of rockets shot into the air.

Fireworks can be quite overwhelming, and possibly hazardous and even life-threatening to pets, according to the Nevada Humane Society.

Carson Car Center acquires local Hyundai franchise

Carson Car Center (CCC) has purchased Carson City Hyundai from the Dick Campagni Automotive Group, said CCC General Manager Wayne Lew.

Margaret Maatala has been drawing since she was a little girl, and is self-taught. Sometimes as a child she would just sit alone and draw characters from books she read, as art was always her passion.

The featured tellers at this year’s event are Willy Claflin, world music percussion band The Batamba Collective, Mother Lode Storytelling Guild tellers Linda Kennedy and Joan McCammon, and chautauquan Larry Lippmann as “Hank Monk”. The weekend also features early afternoon shows specifically for families and children, an open mic storytelling concert and a storytelling group Carson Valley Memories led by Nancy Raven.

The Carson City area BMX community has launched its annual Race For Life campaign to help raise money in the fight to find a cure for blood-related cancers. Racers and their families can pick up collection envelopes and begin collecting donations from friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses in the community. Helping others is one of the finest things anyone can ever do in life. Donations raised will go to help fight and bring to an end a dreadful disease that affects thousands of people each year.

Carson City scavenger hunt to collect small change for changing lives

Seek and you shall find. This week in Carson City, participants in a local scavenger hunt will be searching for four purple-painted parking meters placed indoors at public venues throughout the Nevada state capital.
