Carson City Classic Cinema Club will present its third annual Hollywood Gala this month honoring Hollywood's Legacy of Comedy.

Two dozen competitive chili cooks armed with ladels and their top-secret recipes stormed the front lawn of Glen Eagles Restaurant Saturday morning to tempt the palates of guests attending the annual High Sierra and Nevada Capitol Regional Chili Cook Off.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. Wildfires have been reported this evening in the Dayton and Silver Springs/Stagecoach areas, with Carson City Fire Department being asked to help as part of a mutual aid effort, according to dispatch.

Multiple fires are burning around the Northern Nevada region, with one 15-acre fire east of Carson City that started Tuesday night. The Sedge Fire was located in the Brunswick Canyon area. No homes or structures were threatened.

While thousands will gather Tuesday night at Mills Park in Carson City to watch the 4th of July fireworks display, the Nevada Humane Society urges pet owners to keep their furry friends away from the thunderous booms and flashing sparks of rockets shot into the air.

Fireworks can be quite overwhelming, and possibly hazardous and even life-threatening to pets, according to the Nevada Humane Society.

Carson Car Center (CCC) has purchased Carson City Hyundai from the Dick Campagni Automotive Group, said CCC General Manager Wayne Lew.

Margaret Maatala has been drawing since she was a little girl, and is self-taught. Sometimes as a child she would just sit alone and draw characters from books she read, as art was always her passion.

While raising her family, she began creating special greeting cards for friends and family, eventually starting a cottage business where she would design and produce those cards, under the name Maggie M’s Original Creation.

Due to the recent flash flooding of the east side of Mason Valley, the Mason Valley Mosquito Abatement District is making preparations to aerial larvicide the large acreage involved.

Valerie Sue Meyer, who started with Carson Futbol Club at age 11, says the club prepared her for three successful varsity seasons at Carson High School and her next step — college soccer.

A bean bag shotgun blast from Sheriff Ken Furlong signaled the start of the Capital 50 and 35 backcountry rides Saturday in downtown Carson City capping the second day of the 2017 Epic Rides Carson City Off-Road mountain bike racing series.

The featured tellers at this year’s event are Willy Claflin, world music percussion band The Batamba Collective, Mother Lode Storytelling Guild tellers Linda Kennedy and Joan McCammon, and chautauquan Larry Lippmann as “Hank Monk”. The weekend also features early afternoon shows specifically for families and children, an open mic storytelling concert and a storytelling group Carson Valley Memories led by Nancy Raven.

The second annual Carson City Off-Road adventure begins Friday with multiple races, a bike and gear expo, and a music festival complete with beer garden, food, on and off-trail and pavement thrills.

The Carson City area BMX community has launched its annual Race For Life campaign to help raise money in the fight to find a cure for blood-related cancers. Racers and their families can pick up collection envelopes and begin collecting donations from friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses in the community. Helping others is one of the finest things anyone can ever do in life. Donations raised will go to help fight and bring to an end a dreadful disease that affects thousands of people each year.

Seek and you shall find. This week in Carson City, participants in a local scavenger hunt will be searching for four purple-painted parking meters placed indoors at public venues throughout the Nevada state capital.
