Carson City scavenger hunt to collect small change for changing lives
Seek and you shall find. This week in Carson City, participants in a local scavenger hunt will be searching for four purple-painted parking meters placed indoors at public venues throughout the Nevada state capital.
The inaugural "Change For Changing Lives" Scavenger Hunt, a fundraiser for the Capital City C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Initiative (CCCI), launches today and the search for the elusive purple parking meters is underway.
The meters, vintage machines painted purple to stand out and not make the hunt too difficult, are also hidden in plain sight, said CCCI President Shelly Aldean.
But the trick is finding the four unique parking meters in a municipality of more than 50,000 people.
They could be placed anywhere, Aldean said, so CCCI will be posting a clue for each parking meter over the next four days on Carson Now.
"Grab your cell phone and your Deer Stalker hat, because the 'Game’s Afoot',” she said. "Happy hunting!"
Aldean said participants should use the clues published each day in Carson Now to locate the meters and take a selfie photo with their cell phones next to each meter they find.
Email the photos with your name and contact information to CCCI Program Manager Brenda Silis at capitalcitycircles@gmail.com, or stop by the CCCI office at 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 10 to submit your photos and information in person by no later than 5 p.m. on June 30.
Each name will then be entered in a drawing to win a new GoPro camera.
Those wishing to donate during the Purple Parking Meter campaign can deposit their loose change into the fully functional parking meters, each with new locking mechanisms in place.
Each of the four meters is also sponsored by a local group or organization, including St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community, The Dale Lyon Bypass Trust, United Methodist Men, and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
CCCI is a local private 501(c)3 non-profit human services agency that helps combat chronic poverty in the region.
