Sunday, June 18: Things to do around Carson City and beyond this Father's Day
A happy Fathers’ Day to all of you with kids, and all of you making a difference in a kid’s life. Enjoy some family time at the Carson Hot Springs where fathers are swimming free today. Downtown is still hopping with live music, bicycles, and great food. Everyone races for free at the Carson City BMX Olympic Day, just make sure you’ve got long sleeves and leave the flip-flops at home. Keep reading and you’re sure to find some way to spend some time with that special man in your life.
SUNDAY: Fathers’ Day
- Downtown Road Closures for the Carson City Off-Road (Carson Street between Proctor and Fifth Street until Midnight Sunday, all other roads open by 3pm)
- -- Free Swim Day for Fathers at the Carson Hot Springs: 1500 Old Hot Springs Road (7am-10pm; applies to outdoor pools only)
- -- Breakfast and Bowling at Carson Lanes (breakfast served 7:30am -11am, unlimited bowling 9am-12pm; $13, $8 kids 8 and younger)
- -- Carson City Off-Road Mountain Bike Race - events in Downtown Carson (Bike and Gear Expo 8am-3pm; Four Peaks Beer Garden and Live Music with the Whitehats at McFadden Plaza 10am-3pm; hosted by Epic Rides)
- -- Flying Pig Flea Market at Fuji Park (8am-4pm; $1 admission, kids free)
- -- Fathers’ Day Pancake Breakfast at the Johnson Lane Volunteer Fire Department - East Fork Station #6: 1450 Stephanie Way, Minden (8am-12pm; $8 adults, $4 kids)
- -- Muscle Powered Weekly Bike Ride - Meet in the south parking lot of Fremont Elementary School, next to the Linear Ditch Trail (meet at 9am; consists of two loops 10-15 miles long each, this will allow a rider to do 10-15 miles or 20-30 miles; ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but usually about 12-16 mph; All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, helmet, and closed toed shoes. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the meeting site; email Shane: shane@shanetrotter.net with any questions)
- -- Community Yoga with Allison Reitz at Comma Coffee (9am-10am; $10 cash only; beginners are welcome; Bring your mind, body, and mat; a limited number of extra mats will be available)
- -- Reno Rodeo (9am-10pm; Ticket prices range from $8 - $15) and Carnival (12pm-12am) at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center
- -- CC BMX Racing: Olympic Day at the Livermore (Edmonds) Sports Complex: 1555 Livermore Lane (Weather and Track Conditions Permitting, signups 9am-10am races begin at 10am, call/text 775-220-7111 if running late; free racing today for all ages and no membership required; Bikes must not have kickstand, chain guard, protruding reflectors or pegs. Riders must wear fully enclosed shoes - NO sandals or flip flops, long pants, long sleeve shirt, gloves recommended and of course, helmet (we do have loaners)
- -- Rides on the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (museum open 9am-4:30pm, train runs every half hour 10am-4pm; museum admission: adults $6, under 18 and FNSRM members free; motor car rides: adults $8, kids 4 -11 and FNSRM members $4)
- -- Virginia and Truckee Round-trip Steam Train Rides: leave from Carson City Eastgate Depot: on Flint Drive, off U.S. Highway 50 East (Depart Carson City 10am, please arrive 30 minutes early - Depart Virginia City 3pm; $52, seniors and veterans $48, kids 3-16 $32; tickets limited, available online HERE: http://www.vtrailway.com/routes.php#cc )

- -- Carson and Mills Park Railroad Train Rides around Mills Park (train runs every half hour 12pm-5pm; tickets $2 per person or three rides for $5, children two and under are free; hosted by the Carson City Railroad Association)
- -- Family Day at Empire Ranch Golf Course (After 12pm, Kids play free with paid adult green fee, one for one)
- -- Fathers’ Day Pow Wow at the Stewart Indian School Campus: 5500 Snyder Ave (Grand Entry 1pm; free, open to the public; please bring your own chairs, no drugs/alcohol)
- -- Music Jam Sunday at A to Zen: 1803 N. Carson St. (1pm-3pm; we try to keep it simple so that musicians of all ages and skill levels can participate. We welcome music of all genres and styles; Audience is welcome)
- -- Live Music with Athena McIntyre at the Canvas Café, Virginia City (1pm-4pm)
- -- Final Performance: Wild Horse Children's Theater presents ‘Getting to Know…The Sound of Music’ in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall (2pm; $10, $8 seniors/students, $5 kids 12 and younger)
- -- Pool Tournament at Remedy’s (2pm-5pm; $5 buy-in; APA Rules)
