Carson Dodge celebrates completion of new service center with grand opening

Seven months after Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep owner Jim Cryer broke ground on a new planned service center for his South Carson Street dealership, he watched the ribbon be cut for business Friday afternoon by one of his own new vehicles.
Back in December, Service Manager Don Radtke said more than $1 million was being invested in the expansion of the dealership's service department, because of a significant increase in after-sales business.
Radtke said the dealership's service business had increased by 60 percent, prompting the move to expand its service center.
The company was right on budget for this project, Radtke said Friday.
"We're fortunate to have so many good customers, and our customers come as far away as Bishop (CA), Tahoe and Reno," he said. "By building this, it's going to allow us to get the cars back to our customers faster."
Radtke said turn-around time for vehicle service should be only about 2-3 days, instead of sometimes weeks because of schedule back-up and limited space.
Radtke, with Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell in the passenger seat, drove a supercharged red Dodge Charger into the new service bay Friday, breaking the ribbon that stretched across it.
The all-new service center doubles the total space of the original, Radtke said, allowing for an increase in service staff to handle the department's demands.
He said five trained service staff have already been added and two more are just starting.
There is about 6,000 square feet of shop space in the new service center addition, Radtke said, plus another 1,000 square feet devoted to an employee lounge and utility storage.
Featuring state-of-the-art conveniences for both service professionals and customers, Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep's improved service space includes high-technology vehicle lifts, a laser alignment machine, new compressors, hoses and reels, as well as a central computerized service system.
Each service bay also features water and oil recovery systems that make service cleaner and more efficient all the way around.
