Mountain bike rides, downtown music festival highlight Saturday's Carson City Off-Road race
A bean bag shotgun blast from Sheriff Ken Furlong signaled the start of the Capital 50 and 35 backcountry rides Saturday in downtown Carson City capping the second day of the 2017 Epic Rides Carson City Off-Road mountain bike racing series.
Of the 900 registered riders in the three events, an estimated 260 took part in separate 50 and 35 mile mountain bike routes. The mountain bikers have gone through various trails such as: Creek trail, Deer run, Jackrabbit trail, Postal route, and EZ trail during their expedition. The 50 mile race is a three lap course, while the 35 mile is two laps.
Joel Dunn, an executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau explained the positive impact an event like this has on the community.
“The economic opportunities this event brings helps us grow in many ways, both present and future.” Dunn said. “It also gives the great folks in Carson City a chance to join in on a fun and festive experience.”
